The Tourism Department of Yunnan Tourism Vocational College was formerly the Tourism Management Department of Yunnan Tourism School. It was established in 1998 and began to recruit tourism technical secondary school students. In 2011, the school established the Department of Tourism after being registered as Yunnan Tourism Vocational College by the Ministry of Education. The majors enrolled in university junior colleges include travel agency management, tour guide, tourism English, and applied Thai. The majors enrolled in technical secondary schools include Japanese tour guides and Korean tour guides. There are more than 1,100 students on campus, with a total enrollment of more than 8,000 students in the past 14 years, and more than 8,000 graduates have been delivered to the society. The first-time employment rate of graduates in that year is 100%.

The Department of Tourism currently has 48 full-time teachers, including 13 senior lecturers, 28 lecturers and 7 teaching assistants. Among the teachers, 2 are PhD students, 13 have obtained master's degrees, 3 are currently studying for master's degrees, 36 are dual-qualified teachers, and 7 have gone to the United States, the United Kingdom, Austria, Japan, Thailand and Singapore for further studies.
