Taizhou, Jiangsu Province is in the east on the map of China.
Taizhou is located in central Jiangsu, at 32°01'57"-33°10'59" north latitude and 119°38'21"-120°32'20" east longitude. It borders the Yangtze River to the south, Yancheng to the north, Nantong to the east, and Yangzhou to the west. Except for an independent hill in Jingjiang River, the rest of the city is an alluvial plain of the two major river systems of the Yangtze and Huaihe Rivers.
The terrain of Taizhou is high in the middle and low in the north and south. The true height in the south along the river is generally 2 meters to 5 meters, the true height in the high sandy area in the middle is 5 meters to 7 meters, and the true height in the Lixiahe area in the north is generally 2 to 5 meters. It is 1.5m-5m. The city's total area is 5787.26 square kilometers, of which land area accounts for 77.85% and water area accounts for 22.15%. The urban area is 1567.13 square kilometers.

The history of Taizhou’s establishment:
On May 8, 1950, Taizhou City and Tai County merged and were called Tai County. Today's Taizhou belongs to Taizhou Prefecture. After the partition on October 7, Taizhou City's organizational structure was restored and it was still part of the Taizhou Administrative District. In January 1953, the Taizhou Prefecture was cancelled. Taizhou City is placed under the Yangzhou Prefecture. In the same year, the People's Administrative Office of Northern Jiangsu merged with the People's Administrative Office of Southern Jiangsu and Nanjing City to restore Jiangsu Province, and Taizhou was reclassified to Jiangsu Province. ?
In November 1954, Taizhou City was changed to a provincial municipality and came under the supervision of the Yangzhou Special Administrative Office. In July 1958, it was changed to a city under the jurisdiction of the Yangzhou Prefecture. ?
On January 9, 1959, Taizhou City and Tai County merged again and were called Taizhou County. The county government was located in Taizhou and belonged to Yangzhou Prefecture. On May 24, 1962, Taizhou County was abolished and the organizational structure of Taizhou City was restored. The Taizhou Municipal Government was based in Taizhou and still belonged to the Yangzhou Prefecture. ?
In May 1971, Yangzhou Prefecture was renamed Yangzhou Region. Taizhou City belongs to Yangzhou Region and is a prefecture-governed city. In January 1983, Jiangsu Province implemented a city-governed county system, and Taizhou City belonged to Yangzhou City. On January 1, 1985, Taizhou City became a city under separate state planning in Jiangsu Province.
