Has Lhasa received more than 16 million tourists per year?

According to reports, the person in charge of the Lhasa Tourism Bureau said recently that Lhasa received 16.06 million domestic and foreign tourists in 2017 and achieved tourism revenue of 22.74 billion yuan, both of which hit record highs.

It is reported that Lhasa has an average annual sunshine duration of more than 3,000 hours and has hundreds of cultural relics protection units at all levels. It is a world-famous ancient cultural city and tourist city. In 2017, Lhasa made great efforts to improve its tourism reception capacity, adding 2 A-level scenic spots, 2 star-rated hotels, and 30 new traction mobile public toilets in urban areas and scenic spots.

In 2018, Lhasa City will continue to strengthen infrastructure construction and cultural industry development to inject new growth momentum into plateau tourism. The city plans to complete the construction of 100 kilometers of roads dedicated to rural tourism and poverty alleviation, achieve full public transportation coverage in all towns and villages, and build or renovate more than 500 toilets in tourist attractions, towns, and agricultural and pastoral areas. At the same time, the Thangka Cultural Park will start construction, and the Tibetan Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is also expected to open within the year.

In addition, it is now the off-season for tourism in Tibet. Tourist attractions and scenic spots such as Potala Palace and Namtso offer off-season tickets, with prices as low as half of peak season tickets. Accommodation and vehicle rental fees are also reduced to varying degrees. There is also plenty of room left for air tickets and train tickets to Tibet.
