So I tried to find another side of Huanggang from three mythical stories, and see what kind of spiritual sustenance and prayers the Huanggang people have hidden in these mythical stories that have lasted for thousands of years. And how many of these sustenances and prayers have already become today's How much of the genes and blood of Huanggang people have been forgotten by the years and are gradually disappearing...

But before that, I would like to briefly excerpt some of the past and present life of the county.

In 1953, Raoping officially moved the county seat from Sanrao, where it was originally located, to Huanggang. The county seat left the old place where she had "lived" for more than five hundred years. Before that, Huanggang had an old name: Huanggang Village.

The old county seat of Sanrao is located in the north of Raoping. Compared with Huanggangzhai, its location advantage is weaker, but the geographical disadvantage was not a major consideration in the past (Sanrao is located in the hinterland, Huanggangzhai It is backed by mountains and faces the sea, making it difficult to defend. In the Ming Dynasty, which was plagued by pirates, it was easy to become a target of pirates. In addition, Huanggangzhai is located in the south of the county, and it is not easy to control the northern area. Therefore, it did not become a county seat in ancient times when transportation was inconvenient. )

According to the records in the "New Raoping County Governance Notes" written by Jiang Chaozong of the Ming Dynasty, "the people in the northern area of ??Sanrao were tough, and they responded to each other's initiative, which was considered unethical in the past." The folk customs are tough and difficult to manage. Once someone rebels, others will follow suit. The official government at that time believed that this was due to the remote location of the area and the lack of widespread education, so Wu Chen, the then governor of Guangdong and Guangxi and deputy capital censor, petitioned to establish a new county in the Sanrao area. After Wu Chen passed away, Zhu Ying (later later) The people of Raoping (known as Raoping City God) succeeded him as governor, and his application was approved by the court, so he started to establish a new county and named it "Raoping", which means "three Rao peace", and also means "Rao will never be barren, peace will never be chaotic" "The beautiful hope.

It was not until after liberation that the county seat was transferred to Huanggang (officially established in 1953) after multiple considerations.

In ancient times, Huanggang had four city gates: East Gate, West Gate, South Gate, and North Gate. The west gate faces Hutoushan Mountain, with the Huanggang River in between. The river here is narrow, and the water is deep and fast all year round, cutting off an official road into the city. There is a boatman who makes a living by ferrying here. The boatman has a wife and a sister, and his life is difficult. He later died of illness due to long years of overwork.

Life at home has become more difficult as the family has lost its supporting pillars. At the same time, the ferryman died and no one was ferrying people across the ferry. It was very inconvenient for the people to cross the river, so they had to cross the river. Once the river water rises, one has no choice but to look at the river and sigh. When my sister-in-law saw it, she secretly discussed that instead of just sitting there and living in vain, it would be better to go out for the ferry and benefit others and herself. So, my sister-in-law went out early and came back late, ferrying people there.

On a calm day, it was possible to ferry the two of them across the river, but when the waves were rough and the waves were high, it was dangerous. Once, when the boat reached the middle of the river, the wind and waves were too strong, the boat was overturned, and all the passengers were washed away. Perhaps by God's will, the sister-in-law escaped death and survived. However, this misfortune made them feel deeply guilty, so they decided to build a bridge to facilitate pedestrians passing by. After the people found out, they were very moved and came to help one after another. Soon, the wood for building the bridge was ready. A small wooden bridge was soon built. However, one night, the flood surged and the small wooden bridge was washed away without a trace. However, the sisters and sisters were not discouraged. After the flood receded, they rebuilt the bridge, but it was soon washed away by the flood again. Until the third time, just after the bridge was built, the flood came again. The sister-in-law and sister-in-law were so anxious that they jumped into the water and hugged the bridge pillar tightly. The flood passed and the bridge was saved, but the aunt and sister-in-law disappeared.

It is said that in ancient times, there was a jasmine flower and a crane on Shibi Mountain, which could absorb the essence of the sun and the moon and practice well. One day, the crane brought a gem in its mouth, which instantly filled Shibi Mountain with aura of auspiciousness.

At this time of year, plague broke out all over Huanggang, and the people suffered terribly. After learning about it, Fairy Crane and Fairy Jasmine went down the mountain and set up a tent outside the north gate of Huanggang City to treat the victims. They dipped the gems in large tanks of water. As long as the people drink this water, all diseases will disappear.

As soon as the news spread, people from all over the country rushed to tell each other. An evil monk in Shibi Temple also knew the news, and he had evil thoughts and wanted to snatch the gem. Naturally, the Crane and Fairy Jasmine refused to agree, and the two sides fought fiercely over this. The evil monk has a profound spiritual practice, and the crane and the jasmine fairy are gradually unable to resist, and the gem is about to be snatched away by the evil monk. The Crane and Fairy Jasmine were determined to die together with the gem, so they held the gem and hit the big rock. There was a loud "bang", the boulder was knocked open, and a cold spring shot out. The evil monk was washed down the pit by the cold spring and fell to his death.

This jade spring is clear and sweet, so later generations called it "Jade Washing Spring".

It is said that there was a dragon boat competition during the Dragon Boat Festival one year. Among the many dragon boats, although the black dragon boat and the red dragon boat were far ahead, they both rowed at the same speed and were on par with each other. In order to win the competition, two paddlers rowing a red dragon boat came up with a strange idea. They found a gap, sneaked into the water, and tied two chairs under the belly of the black dragon boat to block the water, so as to generate water. Resistance slows down the progress of the black dragon boat. Unexpectedly, after the black dragon boat was tied to the chair bars, it seemed to have four extra legs. When the race started again, it left the red dragon boat far behind, like a real dragon soaring, unstoppable and unrivaled.

At noon, the dragon boat rowers all went ashore to eat and rest. The black dragon boat was tied under the bamboo forest by the stream. At this time, the wife of the helmsman of the black dragon boat happened to go to the stream to wash clothes. Suddenly she saw an oolong eating bamboo leaves, and she was very surprised. She knew that this was a black dragon boat that had become a spirit. She would definitely win if she participated in the competition, but the dragon boat rowers would die in the river. It was impossible to persuade her husband to withdraw from the competition now. Fortunately, she heard that women's trousers could ward off evil spirits, so she put her own trousers on her husband before the dragon boat race in the afternoon.

The locals saw that black dragon boat races were life-threatening and extremely unsafe, so from then on, people did not dare to race black dragon boats during the Dragon Boat Festival. Later, this custom gradually spread throughout the Chaoshan area, and its influence remains today.
