The report states that Taiwan is the largest source of substandard food imported from mainland China. What do you think?
Imported food should be synonymous with high quality, but unfortunately, food imported from Taiwan is not included in this list.
I am not surprised at all by the report that “Taiwan is the largest source of substandard food imported from the mainland.” Because the trade behavior between the mainland and Taiwan is not a normal market behavior. It is completely part of the united front policy. Between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, politics is above all else.
Currently, 23 agreements have been signed between mainland China and Taiwan. These agreements have one thing in common: they benefit Taiwan. Import Taiwanese fruits and foods and send money to Taiwan; liberalize travel to Taiwan and send money to Taiwan. The purpose is to subtly influence the attitude of Taiwanese people towards the mainland.
The result is good. In the eyes of Taiwanese people, the mainland is full of blame. Mainland tourists are treated the worst when traveling to Taiwan. There have been no serious tourist accidents in Taiwan for decades. However, since mainland tourists were allowed to travel to Taiwan, accidents wiping out all mainland tourists have occurred every year. As for the food sold from Taiwan to the mainland, most of them are substandard products. According to recent public data, the batches of substandard food imported by mainland China from Taiwan in 2014 and 2015 accounted for a quarter of all batches of substandard food imported by mainland China in these two years.
You know, China imports food from hundreds of countries and regions around the world. Taiwan, which is as big as a booger on the world map, sells substandard food to China, accounting for a quarter of the total imported substandard food. This data is really scary. Can we still buy Taiwanese food? Can we still eat it?
What is even more irritating is that these data have actually been on the desks of relevant departments for a long time, but they have been there for more than two years and have not been leaked to the society at all, allowing the public to still buy without knowing the truth. It is very likely that the food imported from Taiwan has safety risks. If things hadn't changed in Taiwan and cross-strait relations had turned cold, these data would probably never be inaccurate.
The safety of imported food is related to the health of millions of people. The government should treat everyone equally and not lower standards just because the food comes from Taiwan.
There is no hope of resolving cross-Strait issues solely by sending money from the mainland. Spending money cannot buy cross-Strait reunification. The solution to the Taiwan issue still depends on who has the bigger fist. Taiwan will never come back without a fight.
