Yunnan, called Yun (Dian) for short, is located in the southwest border of China. The Tropic of Cancer runs through the southern part of Yunnan Province, belonging to low latitude inland areas, bordering Guizhou and Guangxi in the east, Sichuan in the north, Tibet in the northwest, Myanmar in the west and Laos and Vietnam in the south.

There are 25 border counties in Yunnan bordering Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam respectively, with a border of 4,060 kilometers, which is the window and gateway for China to Southeast Asia and South Asia.

In the second year of Yuanfeng in the Western Han Dynasty (before 109), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty opened west to south, and set up 24 counties, of which Yunnan was one.

Yunnan has three naming methods.

One, "Colorful Yunnan Today" said that when the county was established, colorful clouds appeared in Longxing Mountain in the north of Yunnanyi Village, and the county seat was in the south of the colorful clouds, which was called "Yunnan";

Second, "Cloud Shan Zhinan" said that Yunshan is (now Binchuan Jizu Mountain, often with clouds several feet high, and the county seat is called Yunnan in YunShan Zhinan;

Third, the theory of "Emperor Wu pursues dreams". According to legend, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty dreamed of colorful clouds at night and sent envoys to pursue dreams. He is chasing colorful clouds in Xiangyun County today because he is located in Yunnan County.
