Please introduce Liege, Belgium.
Liege has been a famous textile and metallurgical industrial zone since ancient times. In the early 16th century, Liege's economic rise was a turning point in its history. In recent years, it has changed from textile, coal and steel to new diversified industries, such as electronics, biochemistry, aircraft engine, aerospace and astrophysics. The traffic here is developed, and the expressway network is connected with major cities in Europe. The port conditions of Meuse River are also in the forefront in Europe. The tourism industry in Liege is not developed, but the tourism school here is the oldest and largest in Belgium. Established in 1927, this school specializes in training professionals in tourism, cooking and wine tasting, with more than 5 students and a schooling of 7 years. The headmaster is pleased to tell us that the students trained in this school have been invited to the palace to cook many times and received various awards. In particular, while this school emphasizes learning to cook local dishes well, it also emphasizes the research and production of meals from all over the world, including learning Chinese food. The journalism in Liè ge Province is quite developed, with more than 4 news media, special management institutions in the province and news federations organized by the media. Liege people love sports, motorcycle cross-country and flying. It is said that the pilot of the first European plane that flew to China was Liege people.
and the most famous is the defence of Fort Liege in World War I.. Liege Fortress was designed by a famous Belgian engineering expert, General Blomont. He was a fortress expert in the 19th century. He invented to build a "fortress ring" or a stronghold belt a few miles away from the city to defend the city. At the beginning of World War I, the Belgian army fought a fortress defense war in Liè ge in August 1914 to resist the German invasion. After the outbreak of the war on July 28th, the Germans attacked France from the right, occupied the neutral Luxemburg on August 2nd according to the schlieffen-Xiaomuzhi plan, crossed the Derby border on the 4th, captured Vesak, and approached Liege. The war on the western front was officially launched. Liege is located at the confluence of the Meuse River and the Ulter River, bordering the Dutch border in the north and the Ardennes forest in the south, which is the throat for the German army to attack France via Belgium. There are 12 forts around the fortress. The circumference of the ring-shaped battery group is more than 5 kilometers, and the interval between the forts is 3 ~ 6 kilometers. There are 4 guns of various kinds deployed, and each fort is built with a reinforced concrete permanent fortification with a thickness of 2.5 ~ 3 meters. According to the reconnaissance of the terrain and defense facilities of the fortress before the war, the German Army of the Meuse River (under the jurisdiction of the 7th, 9th and 1th Infantry Troops and the 2nd Cavalry Troops, with 12, troops under the command of General O.von emich) planned to use the interspersed tactics to carry out an assault from between the forts, first occupying the bridges in Liege and the Meuse River, and then destroying the surrounding forts. General GM. Lerman led 4, Belgian troops to hold the fortress, waiting for reinforcements from British and French troops. On the 5th night, the German main force launched an assault on Fleron and Evogne Fort east of the Meuse River. The cavalry crossed the Meuse River north of Liege Fort and made a detour from the west to the fortress. The Belgian army stuck to the trench between the forts, and defeated the German infantry's repeated attacks in dense formation with artillery and infantry, machine gun fire and strong searchlights. On the 6th, the German infantry guns jointly organized a new attack on the east battery, and at the same time launched an attack on three batteries in the south, namely, Flamel, Bancé Le and Anburg. The army is outnumbered. Lerman was worried that the infantry on the east coast would be divided by the Germans, so he ordered the Ministry to evacuate to the west coast. The next day, the Germans invaded Liè ge from between Fleron and Evogne battery, and captured two batteries in the east on 1th and 11th. On the 12th, the Germans transferred 42 mm howitzers to bombard the battery still controlled by the German army. By the 16th, the forts had fallen one after another. The Germans opened the way to attack France at the cost of 25 thousand casualties. The stubborn resistance of the Belgian army delayed the German action and bought time for the Allied troops to assemble their troops.
