Historical legends:

Xiangshan, also known as Lishan in ancient times. It wades the Li River in the east, Ningyuan in the west, Taohua River in the north, and overlooks Chuanta Mountain in the south. The bright moon, the gurgling blue water, the green mountains and ancient temples of E'e all capture the essence of Guilin's landscape. It is known as the city emblem by the world. It is unparalleled in the world.

Legend has it that one year the Emperor of Heaven was out on a hunting trip and passed by Guilin with a majestic guard of honor. In the honor guard, an elephant carrying a vase for the Emperor of Heaven fell ill on the roadside due to excessive fatigue.

The Emperor saw that it was dying, so he left it and took the other soldiers and horses away. When the elephant was dying, an old couple named Xiang Gong and Xiang Po rescued it. Under the care of Xiang Gong and Xiang Po, the elephant quickly recovered to health.

In order to repay the old man's life-saving grace, the idol vowed not to return to heaven, and helped Xiang Gong, his wife and the farmers till the ground. Because an elephant was missing from the ceremony and the formation was unsightly, the Emperor ordered the elephant slave to return to Guilin to find the sick elephant.

The elephant slave came to Guilin and saw the sacred elephant plowing fields for farmers, so he scolded it for losing its identity and face as a god. The elephant said: "You and I, the Emperor of Heaven, have eaten the food grown by the farmers, but can't we do something for them? I will never go back to be a slave for the Emperor of Heaven."

The Emperor of Heaven heard that God The elephant refused to return to heaven, so he brought his heavenly soldiers and generals to capture him. The elephant raised its proboscis to defend itself bravely, and fought fiercely with the heavenly soldiers and generals for three days and three nights. It was bruised and exhausted, but it remained unyielding and did not stop fighting.

When the Emperor of Heaven saw that the elephant was so brave, he was afraid that he would lose too many soldiers and generals if he tried to capture it, so he thought of a poisonous plan. He said to the idol: "You are a fierce general. I like you very much, so I will let you be reincarnated." After saying that, he withdrew to the sky with his heavenly soldiers and generals.

The idol listened to the words of the Emperor of Heaven and completely relaxed his guard. So it went to the Lijiang River to drink water to quench its thirst. Just as it lowered its long nose to drink water, the Emperor of Heaven quietly walked behind it and stabbed the long sword into the body of the elephant.

Due to the excessive force, only a short hilt of the sword was left on the elephant's back. Although the idol died, it did not fall. Over time, it turned into a majestic Elephant Trunk Mountain. Looking from a distance, the trunk, body and tail of the elephant are clearly visible.

The small bottle-shaped tower on the mountain is said to be the hilt of the sword left by the Emperor of Heaven. But in fact, this ancient pagoda was only built in the Ming Dynasty. It is engraved with the image of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva. The name of the pagoda is called "Puxian Pagoda", also called "Bottle Pagoda".
