Guilin, referred to as "Gui", is located in the northeastern part of Guangxi, on the west bank of the Li River. It is named after its abundant osmanthus and osmanthus trees. Guilin is famous for its four unique features: "green mountains, beautiful waters, strange caves and beautiful rocks", and enjoys the reputation of "Guilin's landscape is the best in the world".

I went to Guilin because my classmate got married. During that nearly a week, besides getting together with my classmates, I just wandered among the mountains and rivers of Guilin.

Two rivers and four lakes are Guilin’s business card and the most beautiful scenic belt around the city in the center of Guilin. The two rivers refer to the sections of the Li River and the Taohua River flowing through the center of the urban area; the four lakes refer to the Shan Lake, Rong Lake, Gui Lake and Mulong Lake located in the urban area. The "Four Lakes" were originally the moats of Guilin in the Tang Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, the city expanded southward to the Taohua River, and the water system surrounding the city was 7.33 kilometers long. Later, due to siltation or filling in of the river sections, it was scattered into lakes. Starting in 1998, after four years of demolition, excavation and restoration, the two rivers and four lakes were finally connected, recreating the beautiful scenery of Guilin that Liu Kezhuang, a famous poet in the Southern Song Dynasty, praised as "surrounded by thousands of mountains and wild fields, and one river embracing the city."
