What is tourism risk?

Tourism risk refers to the possible risk factors in tourism activities. It is an objective fact that the risk of tourism activities is not transferred by human will. According to different classification standards, tourism risks can be divided into different types.

Types and characteristics of tourism risks

(A) the types of tourism risks

Risk refers to the danger that may occur before the danger occurs. Risks exist with human social activities. There are many kinds of risks, which are mainly divided into the following categories: (1) According to the object of risk, it can be divided into personal risk, property risk and liability risk; (2) According to the causes of risks, they can be divided into natural risks, social risks and economic risks. These risks occur from time to time in tourism activities. For example, tourists may encounter accidents due to various accidents when traveling by means of transportation; During the stay, personal or property losses may be caused by facilities, security or their own reasons; When tasting delicious food, discomfort or food poisoning may be caused by poor disinfection of utensils or unclean food; Personal injury or death may be caused by scenic spots and facilities during the tour, and so on. People will also be threatened by natural disasters in tourism activities, such as typhoons, earthquakes, storms, rain and snow, landslides and so on. In addition, tourists lose money and things, are robbed by gangsters, and even accidents such as falling and drowning due to careless behavior of tourists occur from time to time. Once risks occur in tourism activities, it will endanger the personal and property safety of tourists. So the purpose of participating in insurance is to transfer this risk to the insurance company. The risks from tourists borne by insurance companies are called travel insurance risks.

(B) the characteristics of tourism risks

Tourism risks mainly have the following characteristics: (1) Tourism risks are unpredictable. This means that this risk may happen, but it may not happen. If it happens, when, where, under what circumstances and on whom, it is unpredictable. In order to prevent the loss caused by this risk, the best choice for tourists is to participate in travel insurance. (2) Tourism risks are contingent. The reason why tourism risks are unpredictable is that they will not happen under normal circumstances. Even if it happens, it is accidental, not inevitable. If tourism is bound to encounter some foreseeable dangers, then no one dares to take the risk and tourism will not develop smoothly. Inevitable dangers do not fall within the scope of travel insurance, and insurance companies cannot bear such risk responsibilities. (3) Tourism risks are unpredictable. This means that the risk of travel insurance must be within the scope of insurance, and the occurrence of the risk must also be caused by natural or external forces or accidents. If it is caused by the insured himself, the insurance company will not be liable for compensation. Accidentality means that people fail to foresee that the factors leading to risk accidents happen by accident due to certain conditions; Second, although people foresaw this possibility and took some preventive measures, they failed to prevent the occurrence of risks due to underestimation or ineffective measures, thus causing damage. The insurance company is responsible for the losses caused by this accident.

Guard against tourism risks

In order to reduce the number and frequency of accidents and avoid unnecessary risks, we should actively take measures to establish a risk prevention system to ensure the smooth and safe completion of tourism activities. Because tourism consumers are the main body of activities and the recipients of consumption, risk prevention is largely the prevention of consumers themselves. Tourism consumers should do:

1. Enhance consumers' awareness of potential safety hazards.

According to the viewpoint of system security theory, there is no absolutely safe thing or absolutely safe activity in the world, and there are hidden dangers in any human activity. The hidden dangers of safety accidents are objective and independent of human will. Therefore, in all tourism activities, risk factors are everywhere. Once the time is ripe, safety accidents will happen immediately, endangering people's physical and mental health. Therefore, in tourism activities, tourism consumers should keep safety awareness at any time and place, strengthen safety psychological training, at the same time, do not relax their vigilance against possible accidents, abandon luck psychology, establish the principle of "safety first, tourism second", and give full play to the preventive benefits of tourism safety. At the same time, in the event of an accident, tourists should maintain a good psychological quality, don't panic in the face of sudden accidents, stay calm, treat the accident calmly and save themselves calmly. It can be seen that the enhancement of tourists' safety awareness is the most important way for tourists to avoid accidents. It can make consumers stay away from hidden dangers from the depths of their hearts and avoid contact with them, effectively playing the role of risk prevention.

2. Improve the quality of tourism consumers.

The occurrence of tourism accidents is largely due to consumers' greed for cheapness and convenience, lack of basic knowledge and low quality. They often pursue whether the quotation of products is cheap or not, whether they can accept it without caring about the quality and brand of products, or in tourism activities, in order to save some money, they often choose some tourist facilities with low safety and quality guarantee and a lot of depreciation, or some tourist projects are already overcrowded, so tourists not only don't stay away, but also try their best to squeeze in for convenience, which often brings them unexpected consequences and sometimes even irreparable losses. Therefore, to strengthen the safety of tourism activities, tourists should not only enhance their awareness of potential safety hazards, but also constantly improve their own quality, keep learning, strengthen their understanding of tourism risks, realize the sudden occurrence of tourism accidents and their devastating impact on our lives, learn to "eat small losses", and don't let themselves regret their lives for a little profit.

3. Activities of risk reduction projects

Generally speaking, the more dangerous the project, the greater the risk and the more serious the harm. For example, extreme sports, canyon rafting and adventure sports in tourism activities. Participants in these activities are often new consumers in today's society, born after 1980. They generally have a strong spirit of exploration, have a deep educational background, are easy to accept and try new things, and are also very young. Therefore, after the tragic accident, they will also be widely concerned by society, and people will feel very sorry. In fact, the accident happened not because of the negligence of these young people themselves, but because of the great danger and excitement of this dangerous project. No matter how well prepared and strictly equipped, security risks cannot be avoided. In order to minimize the possibility of accidents and avoid tragedies, the best way is to avoid these dangerous projects as little as possible, stay away from them and let them have nothing to do with themselves, so as to avoid them. If some consumers just like these exciting activities, or relax occasionally, then we must also check whether the facilities in the scenic spot have been inspected by the state, whether they are inspected regularly, and whether the supporting facilities are safe. Everything is ready before starting, which will also reduce the risk.

4. Reduce the unconscious behavior of tourists

Unconscious behavior is also an important cause of accidents. Generally speaking, these behaviors are closely related to the habits of consumers. Usually everything is careless, not taken seriously, careless in life, throwing cigarette butts, careless diet, inappropriate dress and so on. These are all bad habits that should be got rid of. What's important is that these incorrect habits may have a negative impact on other aspects of yourself. For example, if you don't pay attention to the reasonable arrangement and hygiene of your diet, you may feel tired and don't want to eat or overeat during the trip, and eventually you will get sick on the way, which will lead to the interruption of your trip and even acute gastroenteritis, which will bring you great pain. Therefore, tourists should form good habits in their daily lives and constantly improve themselves. In the process of going out, we should pay more attention to our words and deeds and try to avoid bringing unnecessary trouble to ourselves and others.

Of course, it is far from enough for tourism consumers to guard against risks, and tourism managers also play an important role in it. For example, tourism managers must check the dangerous objects and tourist facilities in the environment one by one for a period of time to eliminate all unsafe factors that may cause accidents; To improve tourism safety facilities, especially in dangerous scenic spots and dangerous road sections, solid and reliable guardrails, retaining walls or chains must be set up and inspected, maintained and improved at any time; It is necessary to warn tourists of the dangers of tourism, clearly inform tourists not to exceed the prescribed scenic spots, tour routes and scope, and set up signs, warning signs and other obvious signs at scenic spots and road dangers to remind tourists to pay enough attention; Tourism management departments should cooperate with meteorological, water conservancy, geological and other departments to obtain timely and accurate meteorological forecasts of floods, mudslides, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, strong winds, heavy rains, freezing and other disasters, predict all kinds of natural disasters that may seriously endanger tourism safety, and inform tourists; You can also establish a tourism safety linkage system in conjunction with the public security armed police, border inspection, frontier defense, transportation, communications, water conservancy, electric power, fire protection, industry and commerce, health, insurance and other departments. These behaviors have a great preventive effect on tourism safety and play a decisive role in eliminating tourism accidents.
