The origin of geological tourism

The earliest geological tourism in a hazy state mainly originated from some ancient writers and geographers' travels to nature, such as Fa Xian in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Li Daoyuan in the Northern Wei Dynasty, Master Xuanzang in the Tang Dynasty and Xu Xiake in the late Ming Dynasty. Among them, Li Daoyuan and Xu Xiake are the most influential, and their works have played an important role in the development and research of geological tourism in China today.

Darwin, the founder of the theory of evolution and a world-famous biologist, is considered to be the earliest individual in the West who made geological tourism. Darwin made three voyages around the world on the Beagle from 183 1 to 1836, which was called "scientific travel" by Engels. During his five-year voyage, Darwin made a detailed and systematic biogeographic survey. According to his diary, he studied and sorted out three geological monographs: Structure and Distribution of Coral Reef, Volcanic Island Seen during the voyage of Beagle, and Geological Survey of South America. Therefore, Darwin's trip is actually a geological trip.

Modern geological tourism is a new invention after18th century, which originated in America. Its background is18th century, and the national park movement arose because some people reflected on the Indian civilization and the destruction of a large number of natural ecology caused by the pioneering in the western United States. American national parks are national nature reserves, which have both nature protection and tourism purposes. 1832, the United States established the Hot Springs National Reserve in Arkansas and started the initial geological tourism. Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world, was established in 1872. Yellowstone National Park has a large number of geothermal landscapes such as hot fountains and geysers, the magnificent Yellowstone Grand Canyon, grotesque and colorful weathered volcanic rocks, and geological wonders such as mountains, stone forests, eroded lava flows and obsidian mountains. These peculiar geological relics have attracted a large number of tourists and made geological tourism flourish.
