Camping guide on Tam Mun Island, Hong Kong

Camping on Tap Mun Island is a common way of leisure and vacation travel for many foreign tourists and Hong Kong citizens. There are many things you need to pay attention to when camping, such as safety, meals, sightseeing, etc. These are all factors that influence your vacation experience. Here is a detailed camping strategy for you.

Notes

After arriving at Tapen Island, walk towards the piled rocks. After coming up and facing the sea, go straight to the path on the right. You should be able to see it in about ten minutes. You need to climb down a bit to get to the first five images.

You should wear suitable shoes for rock climbing. Watch out for loose stones and be safe!

The first time I went camping was specifically to Tapmen Island, and the overall experience was pretty good.

Sleep listening to the sound of the waves at night, and watch the sunrise with the person you like in the morning.

It is really a super happy thing. This is something you must try once in your life.

1. If you are sure you want to camp, it is best to reserve a tent in advance, otherwise there may be no tents available for rent on the day.

2. Bring a jacket to keep warm! When watching the sunrise, the temperature difference between morning and evening is huge, so I caught a cold.

3. Remember to bring a power bank, mosquito repellent snacks and a flashlight!

1. Tent

2. Barge

3. Knife

We know nothing about Tapen Island. In my mind, camping equates to desolation and self-reliance. If you want to travel light, you can basically start with the three things on our imagination list.

Let me first talk about a question that everyone is concerned about: how to get there. We figured out how to get there, for reference only.

1. Luo Wu-Sha Tin

You can take bus 299X from Sha Tin Bus Terminal under Sha Tin City Plaza to Sai Kung Pier. I remember it was at Platform 1, and it took about 50 minutes to get to Sai Kung Pier.

2. Saigon Wong Shek Pier

After getting off at Sai Kung Pier, you can directly transfer to bus No. 94 to Wong Shek Pier, which takes about an hour (the scenery along the way is very pleasant and beautiful, and it feels like Like the road with the initial letter D)

3. Huangshi Pier-Tamen Island

The frequency of ships from Huangshi Pier to Tamen Island is relatively dense. In fact, there are many private fishermen who drive speedboats and can reach Tap Mun Island in about ten minutes. If you are not in a hurry and are worried about being unsafe, you can wait for the public ferry. If you don’t find it fun, take a private speedboat (20 HKD).

I have seen a friend recommend getting off at University Station, then walking to Ma Liu Shui Pier to take a boat to Tap Mun Island. Although it really feels convenient and fast, there are too few boats from Ma Liu Shui to Tap Mun. There are only two flights a day, 8:30 in the morning and 3:30 in the afternoon. The most important thing is that there are too many people, so I guess I am not in the mood to queue.

Go to: Lo Wu (East Rail Line)-Shatin (Bus 299X)-Sai Kung Pier (Bus 94)-Wong Shek Pier (Private Speedboat)-Ta Mun Island.

Return: Tap Mun Island (take a boat at 11:30 am, one and a half hours) - Maliusui (20 minutes' walk) - University Station (East Rail Line) - Luo Wu.

There is no turning back from this road. When you come back, your physical strength will definitely not be as good as when you went there, so you don’t have to worry about it, and your time will pass very well and comfortably.

Catering and food

It is recommended that you must buy it in front of Sai Kung Pier. Because there is nothing to buy on the island except water and drinks. (Actually, it’s really good to buy it at Sai Kung Pier, otherwise it would be useless to buy it from Lo Wu Tita Mun Island), such as Wellcome and Parknshop.

The romantic one buys more meat, the original one buys more biscuits. Because we were romantic and primitive, we were afraid of the Death Star, so we bought cookies for meat, fruit and a freezer.

Bathing/Using the Toilet

If you don’t mind taking a shower at the beach, you can go down the mountain and have a private room next to the Xinhui River Restaurant for money. If it's easy for boys to go to the toilet, it's also easy for girls. It was not easy, as we had to go down the mountain to the pier to use the toilet. In the evening, you'd better go together. There is a dark section of the mountain road.

1. If the tent has conditions, it is best to bring a sunscreen compartment. Otherwise, setting up a tent in a shady area is like setting up a sauna. And you need to use land to nail the tent, otherwise the strong wind on the island will make you doubt your life after getting up. Hang a light in front of your tent before going to bed at night to prevent cows from spending the night with you.

2. There are many free-range cattle on Tap Mun Island. Cows will eat anything anyone eats. This is how a couple in front of us was eaten by a cow, so watch the tent carefully. When the cow comes, beat it with a stick. (Pay special attention to Cow No. 822. How many people have you eaten? Doesn’t count?)

The wind on the island was too strong, so we used local materials, moved stones from the seaside, and built a small stove. On one side is a portable gas stove (because of the strong wind, the gas that can burn for an hour will burn out in half an hour at most), and on the other side is dry wood and fire to make soup. I did this, and it attracted admiration from many people on the scene. Is this a farmhouse?

In fact, it is extremely difficult to light a fire in strong winds. Everyone is really paying attention to the garbage on the beach. That's how I found a small bag of charcoal left by my predecessor. Then I picked up some dry branches and sword leaves (these leaves are good for making fire), put some at the bottom, and broke the charcoal.

Light a little charcoal and you'll be good to go!

Sitting on the edge of the tent, cooking, barbecue, eating, talking and laughing with the strangers in the tent next to me, drinking beer, and looking at the moon on the sea, everything is so simple and comfortable.

I accidentally discovered that there is no mobile phone signal here! Although anxious, we are happy. Nature and reality allow us to escape from the Internet and return to simple happiness, which is good.

Why choose Tap Mun Island as your travel destination

Ta Mun Island is an outlying island in Sai Kung District, Hong Kong. It is a holy place for hiking, camping and photography. There are three reasons:

There are not many families living on the island, but the security is very good. Even on holidays, there are fewer tourists than other places, avoiding crowds. The ecological environment is well protected, the grass is green, the sea is blue, and the air is fresh.

2. Some tourists leave by boat after a day of fun, while others come to tent camping. The camping places are concentrated here, and the campsites are very flat. Tourists can save part of their accommodation costs and enjoy camping with their families, lovers and friends.

3. The seafood on the island is really top-notch! Very affordable, the ingredients are fresh, the portions are plentiful, and the taste is delicious.

How to get to Tap Mun Island

Take the subway to University Station and walk 15 minutes to Ma Liu Shui Pier. Flight times and prices are shown in the picture.

:Tips:

: 1. After getting off the subway at University Station, there is a Maxim's restaurant 3 minutes' walk away.

: 2. The sailing time from Maliushui to Tamen is a little more than an hour. There is a section where the sea breeze is very strong and cold, especially on the second floor of the ship. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare a light jacket, sunglasses, and sun hat.

: 3. During the May Day period, queues formed at Ma Liu Shui Pier an hour and a half before the boat sailed. It is recommended that friends traveling during the holidays queue up as early as possible.

:4. You can pay cash or use Octopus to buy ferry tickets.

: Take the Tsui Wah to Tap Mun

. After driving for half an hour, you can arrive at Pier 114. This is a big swing.

There are people fishing at the pier, speedboats are moored, and tourists are walking with backpacks on their backs. This is also a very good hiking location for Hong Kong people.
