How to heat food for a picnic
How to heat food outdoors
You can bring a self-heating tableware, which can heat food without fire, and even steam a delicious meal outdoors egg custard.
This self-heating tableware is composed of an outer container, an inner tank and a heating piece. Before use, open the tableware container, then unpack the heating piece and put it into the outer container, and then directly Pour a certain amount of water on the heating plate, and then just wait a few seconds for the heating plate to start to heat up automatically. Then put the inner pot containing the food on the heating plate and close the lid. Then, according to different food characteristics Choose the appropriate heating time, and a piece of hot food will be presented in front of you.
It is reported that the main heat source of this kind of self-heating tableware comes from the matching heating plate. This kind of heating plate will undergo a special chemical reaction when it encounters water, and uses its own heat to heat the added water, and then steam the food through the principle of steaming.
At the same time, the continuous heating time of the heating plate can be up to 30 minutes. Not only coffee instant noodles, but also more demanding foods such as rice and egg custard can be easily cooked.
To put it simply, the principle of this heating sheet is very similar to the "baby warm patch" used daily by citizens.
How to make your own fire for outdoor cooking
If you don’t have a fire or modern heating tools, you can make your own fire to heat food.
1. Fire-making method using flints
This method is the earliest way for humans to make fire. The use of this method may have been inspired by the phenomenon of sparks bursting out when making stone tools. We can find a hard stone as a "flint" and use the back of a knife or a small piece of steel to hit the "flint" downward to make sparks fall on the primer. When the kindling starts to smoke, slowly blow or fan it to create an open flame. If the "flint" cannot make fire, you can find another stone and try again. Of course, not just any stone can ignite the tinder. The sparks struck by the stone must have a certain amount of heat and duration to ignite the tinder. According to archaeological data, sparks produced by striking pyrite against flint can make fire. Put flammable tinder or burnt cloth on top of the flint, and the blow will catch fire. There is one thing to note here: the more angular the stone, the better the effect when hitting flint. When the edge of a hard stone is too rounded, it needs to be broken on a large stone so that sharp edges and corners can appear.
2. Make fire with a bow
Tie strong branches or bamboo pieces with shoelaces, ropes or belts to make a bow. Wrap a dry stick around the bow and spin it quickly over a small piece of hardwood. This will drill out black powder, which eventually smokes and creates sparks, igniting the kindling. Scrubbing a piece of glass on a flat board can also generate heat and fire. When it becomes hot due to severe friction, blow the tinder on fire.
3. Make fire with rattan
Find a dry tree trunk, split one end, and use something to prop up the crack, stuff it with kindling, and use a tree trunk about two feet long. Thread the cane behind the fire starter, step on the tree trunk with your feet, and quickly twitch the cane left and right to cause the friction and heat to ignite the fire starter. You can also use two soft fire heads or bamboo chips to rub each other hard to make a fire. The dry material at the bottom of palm bark or coconut leaves can be used as a kindling material.
4. Drill wood to make fire
Find suitable wood to make a drill board. Dry poplar, willow, etc. will be good choices because their texture is soft. Then find a suitable branch to make a drill bit, which is relatively hard. The conditions are not as harsh as drilling boards. Then, drill a small inverted "V"-shaped groove on the edge of the drill board. Finally, put a flammable tinder or dead leaf under the drill board, and then drill hard with both hands until fire comes out.
