Zhaizicheng south gate

To the south of Lingzu Temple, there is a wild field overgrown with weeds. Follow a path full of weeds, continue south for about 2 miles, cross a small pine forest and a bamboo forest, and finally see the south gate of Zhaizi City. Of the three existing stockaded villages in Zhaizi City, the south gate is the most intact. The south gate, also known as Xiazhaimen, Qianzhaimen and Taipingmen, is inscribed with the title of "Taipingzhai" as "Xiaoyangyue in Jiayin Year of Xianfeng". Its shape is the same as Xizhaimen, made of red stone, with a width of 0.2 meters and different lengths. It is an arched doorway with a width of 1.9 m and a height of 2.76 m.

This house door is similar to the ancient city gate. There is an entrance and exit on the lower floor, which can line up five people side by side. On the second floor is the earthen cannon building, imitating the ancient watchtower. There are small windows around for observing archery, and the repair marks of future generations are obvious.

The south gate faces south, which is the first pass in Qian Shan. If the enemy attacks head-on, he must cross the water from Huashiyan Reservoir, climb a steep path, and then cross a long passage to Zhaimen, where the terrain is steep and the trail is immediately exposed. In addition, there are many deep streams facing the city wall, and there are few places to climb, which greatly improves the defensive strength of Zhaizi City and can really be regarded as an iron wall.
