Zhang Qian’s Tomb

Zhang Qian’s tomb is located in Zhang Qian Memorial Hall. The Zhang Qian Memorial Hall is a provincial cultural relic protection unit. It was built to commemorate Zhang Qian, a famous diplomat, explorer and Silk Road pioneer in the Western Han Dynasty. It is located in Raojiaying Village, Bowang Town, three kilometers west of Chenggu County, Shaanxi Province.

Zhang Qian’s tomb faces south from the north, is 15 meters wide from east to west, 15 meters long from north to south, and 8 meters high. It is in the shape of an overturned bucket and is surrounded by ancient cypresses. In front of the tomb is a pair of stone tablets and a pair of stone tigers from the Han Dynasty. In front of the gate, there is a pair of stoneware tables with a height of 8 meters and consisting of three parts: a pestle and a bucket. In 1988, the majestic Han Dynasty Que-style gate tower was built, the cemetery corridor was paved, and precious flowers and trees were planted.

In 1991, three more majestic dedication halls were built. On the east and west walls were hung "Zhang Qian's Mission to the Western Regions" and "Hollowed Out". In July 1993, the county's first dedicated tourist highway, 3 kilometers long and 10 meters wide, was built, which can lead directly from the county seat to the memorial hall. Nowadays, the newly renovated memorial hall has beautiful flowers and trees, whirling bamboo shadows and pleasant scenery, and is very popular among tourists.
