Detailed introduction to Guernsey
The second largest island in the British Channel Islands. It is 48 kilometers (30 miles) east of Normandy, France. Area: 62 square kilometers (24 square miles). Together with Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou and other islands, it forms the Guernsey District (an area of ??78 square kilometers [30 square miles]). The capital is St. Peter Port.
The residents are mainly of Norman descent. The population is 65,573 (July 2007), ranking 197th in the world;
The population density is 836.3 people per square kilometer (ranking 12th in the world). St. Peter Port and St. Sampson are the main centres. The dairy farming industry is mainly concentrated in the southern highlands, producing the famous Guernsey cattle. There are vegetable plantations in the north that use greenhouses to cultivate tomatoes, flowers and grapes, most of which are shipped to England. There is tourism. The aviation business is increasingly important economically.
The currency of Guernsey is the Guernsey Pound (equivalent to the British Pound). GDP(PPP) 2003 - Total $2.59 billion (176th) - Per capita $40,000 (9th) The airport is located in La Villaize. There are shipping connections with Jersey, Alderney, Sark, London, Weymouth (England) and Saint-Malo (France).

6. St Pierredu Bois Parish (St Pierredu Bois), with an area of ??6.257 square kilometers (2.416 square miles) and a population of 2,188 (2001).
7. St Sampson Parish (St Sampson), with an area of ??6.042 square kilometers (2.333 square miles) and a population of 8,592 (2001).
8. St Saviour, covering an area of ??6.378 square kilometers (2.463 square miles) and a population of 2,696 (2001).
9. Torteval Parish, with an area of ??3.115 square kilometers (1.203 square miles) and a population of 973 (2001).
10. Vale Parish (Vale), area 8.951 square kilometers (3.456 square miles), population 9,573 (2001).
