Its predecessor was the Jehol Agriculture and Forestry College founded in 1950.

The college is located in Chengde, Hebei, a national historical and cultural city and a famous tourist destination. Chengde City has a five-thousand-year-old Red Mountain culture and a three-hundred-year mountain village culture. It has a world cultural heritage summer resort and surrounding temples, and has many laurels such as the first batch of historical and cultural cities in the country and the first batch of China's outstanding tourist cities.
