The Department of Political Science and Law was founded in 1983. It is a new force that grew up in the tide of reform and opening up. The Department of Political Science and Law currently has four junior college majors: history education, legal affairs, tourism management, and hotel management, as well as an ordinary undergraduate major starting from high school in ideological and political education, with more than 500 students enrolled. It also offers four adult education majors: history education, legal affairs, tourism management, and administrative management. It has also partnered with more than 20 undergraduate colleges and universities in Hubei Province, including Wuhan University, Hubei University, and Three Gorges University, to provide undergraduates with junior college degrees. The Department of Political Science and Law has a team of high-quality teachers with reasonable professional titles, academic qualifications, and age structures. There are currently 36 full-time and part-time teachers and 24 full-time teachers, with an average age of 32 years old. The professional title structure is reasonable: 4 professors, 14 associate professors, 15 lecturers, 3 teaching assistants, 2 master's tutors, and 12 dual-qualified teachers. It also has 31 long-term visiting professors from Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Capital Normal University, Hubei Academy of Social Sciences, Sichuan University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and other universities and colleges. The academic level is relatively high: there is 1 postdoctoral fellow, 4 doctoral degree holders, 22 master degree holders, and the others are all bachelor's degree holders. Teachers in the Department of Political Science and Law actively explore the teaching rules under the new situation and are determined to reform, and a number of advanced models of teaching and educating have emerged. The Department of Political Science and Law has 6 teaching and research sections in philosophy, economics, law, Chinese history, world history, and tourism management, and 1 practical course laboratory. It also has the Yunyang Normal College Ancient Books Collection Room and Two scientific research institutions, the Yang Xianzhen Institute of Philosophy and Thought of Yunyang Normal College, and a social and legal service organization, the Legal Aid Center of Yunyang Normal College, are responsible for the teaching of main courses, teaching and scientific research, as well as daily teaching and scientific research organization and supervision. Among them, the Chinese History Teaching and Research Section was rated as an outstanding teaching and research section.

The Department of Political Science and Law has always adhered to the policy of giving equal emphasis to teaching and scientific research, promoting teaching through scientific research, and has achieved gratifying results in teaching and scientific research. The department has jointly undertaken 1 national-level scientific research project, 25 provincial and department-level scientific research projects, 3 municipal-level scientific research projects, and 40 school-level scientific research projects. He has published more than 30 works. Among them, Professor Yang Lizhi's "A Brief History of Wudang Taoism" and Associate Professor Meng Xianjie's "History of the Revolution in Northwest Hubei" have had a significant impact on domestic and foreign academic circles and have become textbooks for local history teaching at Yunyang Normal College. Yang Lizhi's "A Brief History of Wudang Taoism" and Wang Daoguo's "Xiaxia Xue" were rated as outstanding social science works by the Hubei Provincial Government in 1995. Zhang Mingyi's "Wudang Aesthetics" teaching slides were rated as Hubei Province's teaching slides in 1996 The second prize for achievement, "The Vicissitudes and Magnificence—An Outline of History and Culture in Northwest Hubei" edited by Professor Yang Lizhi, won the third prize of the 2006 Hubei Province Humanities and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award. Meng Xianjie's book "History of the Revolution in Northwest Hubei" was awarded the second prize of the Shiyan Municipal Government's Outstanding Social Science Book Award.
