What does NIO Destination Charging Station mean?

NIO’s destination charging piles refer to charging piles that can be set up after the vehicle reaches its destination. Destination charging stations, which as the name suggests are destination car parking spots, are primarily another solution to the lack of coverage from Superchargers. You can park and charge while shopping, watching movies or eating.

In September 2020, in order to provide more electric vehicle users with a worry-free destination travel experience, NIO launched a destination charging pile plan: the Power Up plan.

The destination charging pile is planned to provide destination electrification services for tourism, office, and business scenarios. At that time, the destination charging pile solution had already been tried at Qinhuangdao Anaya Alan Hotel and Tencent Headquarters Building. On average, each charging pile is used for more than 5 hours a day, and it is planned to be equipped with a 20kw DC fast charging pile.

Compared with overcharging piles, 20kw DC fast charging piles have lower capacitance requirements and can be deployed in as little as 3 hours. In addition, its charging efficiency can reach 30% of that of overcharging piles, and it can charge 20 kilowatt hours in one hour. Basically a meal or a movie can fully charge the car.

NIO’s goal is to deploy more than 30,000 destination DC piles across the country, and promises to provide construction and operating subsidies to all partners willing to share resources, and exempt NIO users from services fee.
