On January 5, 1990, with the approval of the Zhaotong Municipal People’s Government, the Zhaotong Dashanbao Black-necked Crane Conservation Area was established on March 31, 1994. It was approved by the Yunnan Provincial People's Government as a provincial-level obvious protection area, and in January 2003, the State Council approved its promotion to a national-level obvious protection area. In January 2005, it was approved by the International Ramsar Convention to be included in the list of major international wetlands. It is one of the 30 major international wetlands in my country.
