Should I wear a headscarf when traveling to Iran?

Women (except preschool children) must wear a headscarf.

The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in Iran remind Chinese citizens going to Iran to pay attention to the following matters:

1. Respect local customs and habits. Women (except preschool children) must wear a headscarf, long-sleeved, loose, opaque tops or windbreakers that cover the buttocks, and do not expose legs and ankles.

Men should not go out wearing tank tops or shorts. Alcohol and pork and dog meat are prohibited. During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, even non-Muslims are not allowed to eat, drink or smoke in public during the day (after sunrise to before sunset). People of the opposite sex generally do not actively shake hands.

2. Avoid going to remote areas alone. Take care of your belongings, especially your passport, and do not carry large amounts of cash with you. To ensure safety, try not to enter or leave the country through land ports bordering Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Iran.

3. Comply with local laws and regulations. Do not take photos in sensitive areas such as government agencies, police departments, military management areas, and parade and assembly venues. Do not use devices such as GPS and walkie-talkies.

4. Iran is an earthquake-prone area and has experienced many strong earthquakes. It is recommended to learn earthquake prevention knowledge in advance. The summer in Iran is very hot, so you should pay attention to preventing heatstroke.

5. UnionPay, Visa, MasterCard and other credit cards and traveler's checks cannot be used in Iran. When exchanging foreign exchange, you should first understand the relevant exchange rate comparisons to avoid being deceived.

6. Items not allowed to be brought into and out of Iran include: alcoholic beverages, pork and related products, gambling equipment, psychedelic drugs, weapons, ammunition, explosives, pornographic books and periodicals, and slander of Islam and Iran Books and audio-visual products on national image.

7. It is recommended that Chinese citizens going to Iran purchase travel insurance in advance.
