Anhui was founded as a province in the 6th year of Emperor Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (AD 1667), and the first word of the provincial names was Anhui. A site of human activities about 2.5 million years ago was discovered in Renzidong, Fanchang County. The Paleolithic site of "Hexian Ape Man" excavated in Longtan Cave in Hexian County 3,-4, years ago shows that human beings have lived and multiplied in this land of Anhui in ancient times.
