1. Jinci Temple
Among the famous scenic spots in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, Jinci Temple is among the best. Jinci Temple is located at the origin of Jinshui River at the foot of Xuanweng Mountain, 25 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City. It was first built in the Northern Wei Dynasty to commemorate Shuyu, the second son of King Wu of Zhou Dynasty. Jinci is a place that many foreign tourists pay close attention to when traveling to Taiyuan City. If you don’t go to Jinci, you will probably regret it.
2. Yurang Bridge
A bridge with historical allusions. Yurang Bridge is located in Chiqiao Village, 24 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The bridge is made of sand and stone and is protected by hook rails. The Jinshui River flows under the bridge. The allusion of this bridge comes from the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, a man named Yurang assassinated Zhao Xiangzi here. After the attempt failed, he committed suicide here. To commemorate him, the name of the bridge is Yurang Bridge.
3. Great Buddha Temple
Also known as Jingyin Temple. It is in Tutang Village, 20 kilometers northwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Sitting north to south, facing Fenshui River in the east, there are towering ancient cypresses and mixed shade trees. Because there is an ancient cypress next to the temple, which grows strangely, the "strange cypress in the earth hall" is a scene in Taiyuan.
4. Shanxi Provincial Museum
Originally known as Shanxi Provincial Library Museum, it was renamed in 1953. The Shanxi Provincial Museum is located in the Confucian Temple in the southeast corner of Taiyuan City. The temple was built during the Dading period of the Jin Dynasty and was renovated and expanded in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The most famous ones here are the Yin Dynasty bronze wine cups unearthed in Shilou County, as well as Gu Kaizhi's calligraphy, Qi Jiguang's handwriting, etc.
5. Taishan Temple
It is located in the north of Fengyu Valley, 23 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Surrounded by jungles and ancient cypresses, the temple is hidden among them and is difficult to see unless you climb up. Taishan Temple was built in the first year of Tang Jingyun (AD 710). It was originally a Taoist temple and was converted into a Buddhist temple in the early Ming Dynasty.
6. Tianlong Mountain Grottoes
It is located on the hillside of Tianlong Mountain 40 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The grottoes are distributed in the east and west peaks of Tianlong Mountain, with eight caves on the east peak and thirteen caves on the west peak. Each cave was excavated at different times, starting from the Eastern Wei Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty.
