In Dali, the last companion sneaked away because he couldn't eat bitterness, and took his only luggage with him. However, he stuck to his goal and continued his research work. Finally, he found the answer, overturned the mistakes in history, and proved that the source of the Yangtze River is not Minjiang River, but Jinsha River.

Xu Xiake has persistent scientific research spirit. When he meets a mountain, he will climb to the top, and when he meets a cave, he will go in and find out. Once, he went to Zhenxian Cave in Rong County, Guangxi. There was a python in the hole, but he managed to go in and check it out. On another occasion, he went to Maye Cave in Chaling, Hunan Province, and heard that there was a dragon in the cave that would eat people. Nobody wanted to be a guide, so he went in alone with a flashlight. When he came out safely, the villagers were very surprised, because no one even dared to go in!

Xu Xiake did not avoid difficulties and dangers all his life, and traveled all over the three rivers and five mountains, spanning China 16 provinces. His investigation record, through the practical exploration of modern geographers, proves that his observation and description are very accurate and is a valuable scientific document. His travel notes are meticulous and vivid, and his description of landscapes can be integrated with deep feelings, which is an immortal masterpiece of China's landscape literature. Xu Xiake traveled and explored all his life, reading the earth and depicting nature.
