Fan Jing is a mountainous area with mid-subtropical monsoon climate. This area is a gathering place of various floristic geographical elements, with rich plant species, including ancient relict species, diverse vegetation types and obvious vertical band spectrum. It is a typical primitive vegetation preservation site in the mid-subtropical mountainous areas of western China.

On June 30th, 2008, Fan Jing was rated as one of the top ten summer resorts in China, the famous Maitreya Bodhisattva Dojo in China, a member of the international "Man and Biosphere Protection Network" and a world natural heritage recognized by the 42nd World Heritage Conference. On July 2nd, 20 18, at the World Heritage Conference held in Manama, Bahrain, Fan Jing, Guizhou, China was approved to be included in the World Natural Heritage List.
