Tourist attractions in Beihai and Tuancheng
Qionghua Island is located in the middle-southern part of Beihai, in Taiye Pool, and is the core of the entire garden. It was called Qionghua Island in the Jin Dynasty, and was once renamed Wanshou Mountain in the Yuan Dynasty. "Qiongdao Chunyin", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Yanjing", refers to Qionghua Island in the middle of the lake. The White Pagoda on Qionghua Island has also become the representative image of Beihai. The lyrics of the famous children's song "Let's Scull", "Let's scull, the boat pushes away the waves, the beautiful white pagoda is reflected on the water, surrounded by green trees and red walls" depicts the time of rafting. View of the pool. The buildings on the island are all built according to the mountains, with scattered heights. They can be roughly divided into four parts: southeast, northwest and northwest.
On the western slope of Qionghua Island, there are architectural complexes including Linguang Hall, Ganlu Hall, Shuijingyu, and Panqingshi. The Yuegu Building on the north side is a royal library, with a half-moon shape in plan. It has two floors, 25 rooms on the upper and lower floors, enclosed on the left and right, and has a spiral staircase inside. On the walls of the building are inlaid 495 square stones of "Sanxitang Dharma Calligraphy", which includes the essence of 134 calligraphers since the Wei and Jin Dynasties, including Wang Xizhi's "Quick Snow and Clear Calligraphy", Wang Xianzhi's "Mid-Autumn Calligraphy", Wang Xun's "Bo "Yuan Tie" and other three calligraphy treasures are all rare and rare, and were praised as "Three Rare" by Emperor Qianlong.
The northern slope of the mountain is divided into two parts: the foothills and the waterfront. The buildings at the foot of the mountain include Baochong Room, Yihu Tiandi, Longu Hall, Panlan Jingshe, Desheng Tower, etc. At the foot of the hillside, there is a group of pavilions and pavilions built near the water, such as Yilan Hall, Daoningzhai, Bizhao Tower, and Yuanfan Pavilion. The style is based on the Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang. There are 300-meter-long semicircular double-layer corridors on both sides, connecting Yiqing Tower and Fenshui Pavilion to the east and west respectively. It faces the Wulong Pavilion, Xitian Brahma Palace and other buildings on the north bank of Taiye Lake across the water and complements each other. On the hillside on the northwest side, there is also the Immortal Dew Tray built during the Qianlong period. It is a statue of an immortal holding the dew tray with both hands carved on a Panlong stone pillar, with a total height of 5.5 meters.
There are not many buildings on the east slope of the mountain, including Zhizhu Hall, Banyue City and Jianchunting. This area is lined with trees, rugged rocks, deep cliff caves and quiet scenery. "Qiongdao Spring Shadow", one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Yanjing", refers to this. To this day, there is still a block-shaped stele of "Qiongdao Spring Shadow" inscribed by Emperor Qianlong in the tree shade. The White Pagoda was built on Wanshou Mountain in the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1651), so the mountain is also called Baita Mountain. The southern foot of the hillside of Qionghua Island is dominated by Yong'an Temple, which includes the Mountain Gate, Bell and Drum Tower, Falun Hall, Zhengjue Hall, Pu'an Hall, Shanyin Hall, etc. All the temples are on the top of the mountain and covered with yellow, green, blue and other colored glazed tiles. Looking down from the top of the mountain, they are colorful and spectacular.
At the back of Yong'an Temple and at the top of Qionghua Island, stands the 35.9-meter-high White Pagoda. It is a bowl-covered pagoda. Its appearance is quite similar to the white pagoda of Miaoying Temple, but it is more beautiful. The White Pagoda of Yong'an Temple was built in the eighth year of Shunzhi (1651) in the Qing Dynasty. It was built on the site of the original Guanghan Hall. It collapsed twice due to earthquakes in the 18th year of Kangxi (1679) and the 9th year of Yongzheng (1731), and was later rebuilt. The base of the tower is a tall stone Xumi base in the shape of a cross, with a bowl-shaped tower body placed on the base. There is a pot-shaped eye door on the front of the bowl, with the "Ten Phases of Freedom" pattern engraved inside. There is a tall and straight pagoda on the pagoda. The brake seat is a small Sumeru seat, on which is placed a slender "thirteen days" brake body composed of thirteen phase wheels. The thirteenth day is covered with two layers of copper canopy, and 14 copper bells are hung around the lower layer. The top of the tower is a temple composed of a rising moon and a gilded flame orb. There is a cannon on the white tower of Yong'an Temple. According to the "Qing Dynasty Huidian", it serves as an alarm. It is actually a town object to complete Feng Shui. On the 25th day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar every year (the Lantern Festival), lanterns are lit from the top of the pagoda to the bottom of the mountain, and lamas are invited to perform rituals to pray for the peace of the country and the people. There is also a small hall named Shanyin Hall built on the high platform in front of the tower. There are 455 small Buddhas made of glazed bricks embedded around the hall. In the hall is the Buddha with Thousand Arms and Thousand Eyes, also known as Zhenhai Buddha, which is said to be used to guard Beihai. There are two stone steles in the east of Yong'an Temple, namely the "Stele of Commemoration of the Ministers Who Built the Pagoda" in the eighth year of Shunzhi (1651) and the "Stele of Reconstruction of the White Pagoda" in the eleventh year of Yongzheng (1731).
There are many exquisite and clear Taihu stones around the White Pagoda and other places on the island, which were transported from the Genyue Imperial Garden in Bianjing (Kaifeng) in the Northern Song Dynasty during the Jin Dynasty. The Yuexin Hall in the west of Yong'an Temple is the temporary administrative seat of the emperor. The Qingxiao Tower behind the hall is a good place for viewing in winter. The entire Yong'an Temple complex starts from the white pagoda on the top of the mountain, with rows of houses, leading to the archway on the shore, and then across the water with a pile of clouds and green bridges, echoing the Tuancheng City to the south.
The coast of Taiye Lake on the East Bank can be divided into two parts: the East Bank Scenic Area and the North Bank Scenic Area according to the geographical location and scenery style. Most of the buildings on the East Bank and North Bank were built during the Qianlong period. From south to north on the east bank are Haopujian, Huafangzhai, Longwang Temple and Xiancantan; on the north bank from east to west are Jingxinzhai, Xitian Brahma Realm, Nine Dragon Wall, Chengguan Hall, Chanfu Temple, Wanfo Tower and Xiao Xitian et al. Huafangzhai
Huafangzhai is the main building on the east bank, also known as the Water Palace. It faces south and is hidden in the mountains and stone forests. It was originally a palace, and the area in front of the door was where the emperor practiced archery. In the middle of the door is a pool, surrounded by corridors and houses, which is exquisite, beautiful and unique. There is also an ancient locust tree in the east of the courtyard, which is said to be thousands of years old. On the west side of Tuancheng, between Beihai and Zhonghai, there is the white marble Jin'ao Yuqiao Bridge, commonly known as Beihai Bridge. The bridge is a seven-hole arch with a relief animal head on the central hole. The bridge deck has original railings and pillars. The entire bridge is like a white jade belt.
In 1958, it was renovated to adapt to traffic. The bridge deck was widened from 8.5 meters to 34 meters, and the bridge body was lengthened to nine holes and 150 meters. There was originally an archway on the east and west side of the bridge, named Jin'ao in the east and Yuchu in the west. Both were demolished in 1958 for the construction of Funei Street.
