Reflection on Istanbul (I): From Constantinople to Istanbul
I am glad to read a book about Istanbul.
Istanbul (Turkish:? Stanbul) is the political, economic, cultural, financial, news, trade and transportation center of Turkey, a world-famous tourist attraction and one of the prosperous international metropolises.
Located at the eastern end of the Balkan Peninsula, on the west bank of the southern mouth of the Bosporus Strait. The strategic location of the entrance to the Black Sea is extremely important when traffic jams occur in Europe and Asia. It covers an area of 5,343 square kilometers and has a population of13.85 million (1985).
In 658 BC, it was built on the promontory between Golden Horn Bay and Marmarahi, which was then called Byzantium. In 330 AD, it was rebuilt as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire and renamed Constantinople. Don't call it new Rome. 1453 became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The name Istanbul existed for at least one hundred years before the Ottoman conquest. For example, in 1403, the king of Spain sent an envoy to meet Timur the Great, and the envoy passed through Constantinople. As mentioned in his memoirs, the Greeks also called this place Istanbul (see the Chinese translation of Ambassador to the East University in Kravitz). But western countries still insist on calling this place Constantinople, because they think the Ottoman Empire is the aggressor here. 1923, Turkey established its capital (moved to Ankara during the War of Independence), and Istanbul became the official name of the world. Now the urban area has been extended to the north of Golden Horn Bay, and UsKudar on the east bank of Bosphorus has also been included in the urban area, becoming a modern city across Europe and Asia.
Istanbul was chosen as the sports capital of european capital of culture in 20 10 and Europe in 20 12. The historic block of this city was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
I read a book about my trip to northern Europe before, and then I went to northern Europe. I hope I can finish reading this book soon and visit Turkey.
Reflection on Istanbul (2): I want to go to a city because of a book.
The first knowledge of the name Istanbul comes from the history textbooks of middle schools. Although I like history class, I am still troubled by those historical years and awkward place names. But strangely, I remember the name of Istanbul and its previous name Constantinople very clearly. Maybe the name Constantinople is more romantic. I still love the previous name of this city, and I am curious about this city because of its name.
Changing the same city to a different name is actually the alternation and collision of two civilizations. It used to be an important place for Christianity and later became the center of the Islamic world. It was once the capital of eissmann Empire, the artistic and cultural center of the whole empire, and a trading city where businessmen from all over the world gathered. From the above points alone, you can imagine how great this city used to be. In the long river of history, no one or a city can always stand at the top, and there will always be ups and downs. If you don't look at history, just from a modern point of view, how can you imagine that many areas were so arrogant?
Even now, it tends to be calm and no longer has its glory, but the imprint left by history will not be easily erased, and it still retains its unique charm, quietly waiting for you to enjoy its scenery. Istanbul is a mysterious historical city, and we will feel its past lives through a book.
The thick book began with 1453 when Muhammad Ⅱ occupied Istanbul. From this moment on, Istanbul began to become the expanding imperial capital, and it was that year that Istanbul became its official name. Then everything about religion, history, architecture, culture, customs and so on will be written for you by two authors. Perhaps because both authors are women, we have seen everything about the city, and it is not just the former Jingoma Railway that attacked Fang Qiu. More is a calm and exquisite, a calm and complacent. Everything the author tells in the book is about the city, both now and in the past, as if it had just happened. Reach out and touch the illustrations in the book, as if the fingertips can still touch the skirts of those historical figures and feel their strong life breath. I may be curious about the city because of its name, but after reading this book, I can't help but yearn for it.
I want to go to a city because of a book. Istanbul, for you, although you can't travel right away, I hope to touch you in person one day.
Reflection on Istanbul (3): A rigorous and interesting social history
The two authors are academically rigorous, using a large number of first-hand materials to reproduce the social history of the Ottoman capital in humorous language, and unveil the mystery of this international metropolis for readers. After living in Istanbul for two years, I am still deeply attracted by the anecdotes in the article. Istanbul written by Orhan Pamuk is a "sad" city. This book is about the joys and sorrows of people living in Iraq from Sudan to dawn.
For example, the sultans are no longer distant and distant images in western records. They frequently appear in front of ordinary people in Istanbul, and sometimes visit privately to observe the people's feelings.
For example, many European travel notes make people feel that Ottoman women are abused at home. Except going to Hamam (public bathroom), everyone stays behind the closed door of Harlem (harem boudoir), with the front door closed and the second door closed. This book describes that women in Yicheng can visit relatives and friends, have picnics, visit gardens, go out shopping and take part in the grand parade in Sudan.
For example, Europeans interpret the anecdote of Turkish bath as the cleanliness of Turks. Hamam Hamam provides a social space for men, especially women who are more restricted than men. Women can meet and communicate with other women outside the family. After careful investigation, they chose a bride for their son and brother.
Thoughts on Istanbul (IV): The Queen of the City-Istanbul
By Ebru? Baoya and Kate? Istanbul: Seven Yamanoki under the Veil was written by two professional scholars who studied Turkey. It is based on rich modern Turkish historical materials, including literature, chronicles, poems, national archives and travel notes. The book interprets the mysterious city of Istanbul from political, economic and cultural perspectives. Exquisite illustrations of Turkish customs, detailed maps of Istanbul and biographies of major historical figures reproduce Istanbul's past glory and unveil its mystery for us.
This book has two covers. The cover is a hand-drawn map of Istanbul in various colors. It depicts women playing, ancient wars, bathing in public baths and talent shows. It fully shows the humanistic customs of Osman and vividly depicts the joys and sorrows of the city, making it vivid. This is like the Ottoman version of The Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, which depicts the floating life of people in the past.
The inner cover is paved with green, which represents hope, the rising sun in Ran Ran, the color of longing for the future and the color of the revival of everything. In the middle is a three-dimensional view of a golden mosque, which symbolizes the splendor of the Sudanese royal family and the splendor of the palace. The whole cover looks noble and elegant, giving people a very comfortable feeling.
Istanbul, a city spanning Asia and Europe, a thousand-year-old city, has developed to this day after numerous wars. It is located at the eastern end of the Balkan Peninsula and on the west bank of the southern mouth of the Bosporus Strait. The entrance of the Black Sea is of great strategic significance in the traffic jam in Europe and Asia, covering an area of 5,343 square kilometers. So many countries want to occupy this city. In 658 BC, it was built on the promontory between Golden Horn Bay and Marmarahi, which was then called Byzantium. In 330 AD, it was rebuilt as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire and renamed Constantinople (also known as Constantinople), also known as New Rome. 1453, Muhammad Ⅱ captured Constantinople and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire, which opened its road to prosperity.
Behind its prosperity and dazzling, there are countless scars and vicissitudes. Those unknown disasters and deaths have also plunged the city into despair. Man-made riots, incitement, street violence, arbitrary atrocities of the country, and natural disasters such as earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, fires, blizzards and plagues once made it crazy. But all this did not completely destroy it. No matter how many hardships, it still stands, and it has been preserved and developed to this day.
People who live here seem to be attracted by this city. They love nature, enjoy outdoor picnics and hiking with friends and relatives, and live a leisurely and slow life. They built a city full of gardens and made it a flower. The marble fountain everywhere is a symbol of Istanbul. People here enjoy life, and all kinds of baths, dramas, boating and garden parties are Turkish entertainment projects.
Today, Istanbul's colorful cultural relics fascinate tourists. Its museums, churches, mosques, palaces, markets and wonderful natural scenery will make people linger. The sunset on the coast of Bosphorus is intoxicating. Famous scenic spots include Topca Boer Palace, Suleiman Mosque, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia Cathedral, Archaeological Museum and Underground Palace.
Istanbul is a city you have to visit, where there are the most beautiful scenery and unique cultural customs. If you want to know about Istanbul, a city with seven hills, then this book will be your best choice. This huge international metropolis, the mystery of the Ottoman Empire city, is waiting for you to uncover.
