As of the end of 2006, there were 12,751 star-rated hotels, 17,957 travel agencies, 762 higher tourism colleges and 762 general universities with tourism departments (majors) in the country, and secondary vocational colleges. There are 941 schools with 734,900 students enrolled. There are more than 2.71 million people directly employed in tourism.
