8. Gengma General Buddhist Temple

Gengma General Buddhist Temple is a temple specializing in Dai language, located in the suburb of Gengma, Gengma County, Yunnan Province. It belongs to the Buddhist temple where Pali language spread to the south. It was taught by Gengma during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Xie Han presided over the construction, and Yatong, the highest Zen master and abbot of Gengma. There is a Buddha of Sakyamuni and 22 Maitreya reclining Buddha in the Hall of Ursa Major, with different expressions. It is famous in Southeast Asia for burying Sakyamuni's "relic". According to the historical records of Dongjing Buddhist Temple, after the death of Sakyamuni, his body was burned to get a crystal bone, that is, the crystal bone of "relic" was divided into eight parts, which spread all over the country and had the power of Buddhism beyond public morality, that is, helping all beings. A part of Sakyamuni's "relic" was introduced into Mengding and buried in the Cave Buddhist Temple. 1994, when the pagoda was rebuilt, 69 Buddha statues, jewels, bronze statues, small pagodas and other items were excavated. At the same time, two bronze inscriptions unearthed recorded the fact that the temple contained the sacred relic "relic", among which a crystal oval Buddha bone (Sakyamuni "relic") about 3 cm long was unearthed. The discovery of "relic" cast a mysterious color on Dongjing Buddhist Temple, which influenced the whole Southeast Asia, and thus formed a Buddhist holy place for the Buddha to save the world and help all beings.
