Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest in Pagoda Forest

The Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest is located at the foot of the mountain about 300 meters west of the Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It is the cemetery of monks of the Shaolin Temple throughout the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, covering an area of About 20,000 square meters. ?

The Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest preserves 241 masonry tomb towers from various generations from the seventh year of Zhenyuan in the Tang Dynasty (791) to the eighth year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1803). The levels of the towers are different, generally from level 1 to level 7, with a height of less than 15 meters. Most of them have inscriptions and foreheads. There are many types of towers and various styles. The Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest has the largest number of existing ancient pagodas in China. It is a treasure trove of precious physical materials for comprehensively studying the development history of Chinese architecture, sculpture art and religion. It is known as the "Chinese Ancient Pagoda Art Museum".

The Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest is the tomb of the monks of the Shaolin Temple through the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Since the Tang Dynasty, there have been additions and reconstructions in all dynasties and gradually formed a large scale.

The Fawan Zen Master Pagoda was built in the seventh year of Zhenyuan of the Tang Dynasty (791). It is the oldest brick pagoda in the pagoda forest whose age can be tested.

Zhihao Pagoda was built in November of the fifth year of Jiayou (1060) in the Northern Song Dynasty.

The Ordinary Pagoda was built in the third year of Xuanhe of Song Dynasty (1121).

The Xitang Pagoda was built in the second year of Jin Zhenglong (1157) and is the earliest Jin Dynasty pagoda in China. ?

The Zhugong Zen Master Pagoda was built in the first year of Jin Zhengda (1224) and is the latest golden pagoda in the pagoda forest.

Yugong Pagoda was built in the 24th year of Yuan Dynasty (1287).

The Zhaogong Monk Tower was built in the fifth year of Yuan Dynasty (1339). ?

The Xiaoshan Monk Pagoda was built in the spring of the sixth year of Longqing in the Ming Dynasty (1572). ?

Monk Tanran Tower was built in the eighth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty (1580).

The Kuangong Zen Master Pagoda on the other side was built in the fifth year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1666). ?

After the 1990s, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, new tomb towers for three great monks, namely Administrative, Dechan and Suxi, were built.
