How many subjects do candidates for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination usually take?
Hello!
For the Hong Kong Diploma Examination, candidates usually take 4 core subjects plus 2-3 elective subjects. You can apply for up to 8 subjects. You can choose from three subject categories: A, B and C. If candidates choose to take the extended part of mathematics, the results for this part will be listed separately from the results for the compulsory part. However, the extended part will not be regarded as an additional subject.
The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education subjects*** are divided into three categories, including 24 new senior high school subjects (4 core subjects and 20 elective subjects), applied learning subjects and other language categories.
Most day school candidates generally apply for four core subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and General Education) and two to three elective subjects. The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination adopts a proficiency-referenced model for reporting assessment results. A proficiency reference reports a candidate's level of achievement against a set of preset ability levels. The performance report of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education*** is divided into five levels (1-5), with Level 5 being the highest level. Among the candidates who have passed Level 5, the results of the candidates with the best performance will be marked with "**", and those with subsequent better performance will be marked with "*". Performance below the first level will be marked as "not rated".
