Among the many temples in Bangkok, the Jade Buddha Temple, the Reclining Buddha Temple and the Golden Buddha Temple are the most famous, and they are called the three national treasures of Thailand. Jade Buddha Temple is a special place for the royal family of Bangkok dynasty to hold religious ceremonies and worship Buddha. On the floating altar wall of the Jade Buddha Temple and the low wall around the temple, there is a row of colored porcelain embedded with peony, lotus and flower-and-bird patterns. It is said that these colored porcelains were brought by Zheng He, a navigator of Ming Dynasty in China, on his second voyage to the West. Jade Buddha is carved from a whole piece of jade, 66 cm high and 48 cm wide. It is enshrined on a throne made of gold and is priceless. Thai people think that jade Buddha is the treasure of town house, and its god is powerful. Even after the formation of successive Thai governments, the Prime Minister and all cabinet members will go to the Jade Buddha Temple to swear allegiance to the country and the king. Ordinary people have life-and-death events such as further education, marriage, childbirth and employment, and they all go there to worship and pray. Two people made a bet, swore an oath, and let Jade Buddha testify. Every season, a grand ceremony will be held, and the king will personally bathe, change clothes and change helmets for the jade Buddha.
The reclining Buddha Temple is dedicated to a giant reclining Buddha, 48.7 meters long and 12.2 meters high. The Buddha statue is gold-plated, covering an area as big as a basketball court, even higher than four floors. Sleeping Buddha is the idol of Thai couples who are not in harmony or have no children. Here, young couples can often be seen kneeling down and praying devoutly. The Golden Buddha Temple is dedicated to a 5,500 kg pure gold Buddha, which is divided into five parts and then assembled into a whole.
Bangkok is not only called the "Buddhist Capital" because there are many monks and nuns and temples everywhere, but also the Buddhist Capital: the headquarters of the World Buddhist Friendship Association with 32 member countries is located here.
