Mengshan Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Sidi Village, Jinsheng Township, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The Mengshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Xishan Giant Buddha, was excavated in the second year of Gaoyang Tianbao (551), Emperor Wenxuan of the Northern Qi Dynasty, according to historical records. The exposed chest and neck part of the Xishan Giant Buddha is 17.5 meters high, 25 meters wide, and the diameter of the neck is 5 meters wide. It was recorded in the Tang Dynasty that it was "two hundred feet high", which is about 63 meters today based on the ordinary ruler of the Tang Dynasty, which is only lower than that of Sichuan, China. The Leshan Giant Buddha (71 meters high) is 8 meters tall, which is 10 meters higher than the Bamiyan Giant Buddha in Afghanistan (53 meters high), which the West once said was "the world's largest Buddha". According to the time when it was carved, the West has not been able to determine the "Ba" Buddha. It is believed that the "Ba" Buddha was carved between the "third to seventh centuries", which is an inaccurate estimate. However, the Jinyang Xishan Giant Buddha is clearly recorded in historical records as being carved in the second year of Tianbao in the Northern Qi Dynasty (551), which was in the sixth century. If the "Ba" Buddha was carved in the "seventh century", our Jinyang Xishan Giant Buddha is a century earlier. It is 162 years earlier than the Leshan Giant Buddha in my country, which was excavated in the first year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty (713). According to this, in terms of height, Jinyang Xishan Buddha is the second largest Buddha in the world, and in terms of age, it is the world's earliest large-scale stone Buddha statue.
