Historical Evolution of Taihu Lake Tourist Area in Wuzhong, Suzhou

1953, the troops stationed in Xuanmu Mountain and the abbot of Shengen Temple, Rongzong, were placed in this long-abandoned ancestral hall, and after the renovation of Rongzong, a Buddhist temple was built.

1982, Taihu Lake was approved by the State Council as the first batch of national-level scenic spots in the name of Jiangsu Taihu Lake Scenic Spot.

Since 2002, Wuzhong District has closed the entrance to the quarry.

Since 2003, Wuzhong District has built a large number of ecological wetlands around Taihu Lake.

Since 2006, the whole region has invested more than 6,543.8 billion yuan every year, which is specially used for river dredging, dike reinforcement and greening projects in Taihu Lake Basin.

Since 2008, Wuzhong District has started the renovation project of East Taihu Lake with a total investment of 2.48 billion yuan.
