What is the difference between Korean SBS and KBS?
1. South Korea’s SBS and KBS represent different meanings.
(1) KBS is the abbreviation of Korea Broadcasting Corporation (Korean: ?/Han-guk Bangsong Gongsa, English: Korean Broadcasting System).
The predecessor of Korea Broadcasting Corporation was the Korea Broadcasting Corporation, a corporate body established during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Afterwards, after several changes, the Korea Broadcasting Corporation was reorganized into Korea Broadcasting Corporation and became the state-owned media of the Republic of Korea. On March 3, 1973, Korea Broadcasting Corporation was restructured into a public media. On December 27, 1990, KBS Channel 3 and Educational Broadcasting separated from KBS and were reorganized into Korea Educational Broadcasting Corporation.
(2), SBS Co., Ltd. (Korean: SBS, ?/ SBS Co., Ltd.), formerly known as Seoul Broadcasting (Korean: /? Broadcasting, English: Seoul Broadcasting System), is one of the four major broadcasting systems in South Korea. One of the only privately held wireless television and radio networks in the country.
2. South Korea’s SBS and KBS were established at different times.
(1). South Korea’s KBS radio channel was launched in 1927, and the television channel was launched in 1961.
(2) South Korea SBS was established in 1990.
3. The slogans and audiences of South Korea’s SBS and KBS are different.
(1). KBS’s business slogan is “to produce the best programs”, and its most famous ones are its nightly news broadcasts and large-scale TV dramas. Its operation is handed over to an independent public agency, with revenue coming from the government and appointed television license service fees. The national anthem of the Republic of Korea is used as the opening and closing song every day.
(2). SBS’s business slogan is “Seeing a Better Tomorrow” ( ), which has been used since 2010. SBS produces a large number of entertainment variety shows and TV series. Compared with MBC and KBS, SBS is more in line with the tastes of young people.
