Historical evolution

The name Dongsheng comes from the ancient name "Shengzhou". "Sheng" contains the meaning of decisive victory and victory. Dongsheng means to be in the east of the original.

After the 30th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1904), most of the pastures were reclaimed, and a large number of Han people from Shaanxi and Shanxi moved into the original areas. In the 33rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1907), two bureaus were established to manage the county king and Zhasak. Dongsheng Hall, which handles Han people's affairs in the Banner Reclamation Land, is located in Guisui Road, Shanxi Province. In the third year of Xuantong (1911), the Revolution of 1911 broke out. The revolutionary army merged Dongsheng Hall, Wuyuan Hall, and Baotou Town into Baodong Prefecture, and soon they were reorganized.

In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the Dongsheng Office was reorganized into Dongsheng County and assigned to the Shanxi Guisui Observatory. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Shanxi and Sui were divided, and Dongsheng County was placed under the Suiyuan Special Administrative Region. In the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), Suiyuan Special Administrative Region was transformed into a province, and Dongsheng County was affiliated with Suiyuan Province.

In 1949, Suiyuan was peacefully liberated during the September 19th uprising. At the end of 1949, Dongsheng was transferred from a county directly under the jurisdiction of Suiyuan Province to the jurisdiction of the Yike Zhao League. In 1954, Suiyuan Province was merged into the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 1983, the county was removed and a city was established. In 2001, the prefecture-level Ordos City was established, and the original county-level Dongsheng City was changed to Dongsheng District.

On February 26, 2001, the State Council approved (Guohan [2001] No. 17) to cancel the Yike Zhao League and the county-level Dongsheng City, and establish the prefecture-level Ordos City.
