Introduction to Shule County

Shule County is located in the southwest of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the northwest of Kashgar Prefecture. It borders Jiashi and Yuepuhu Counties to the east; Yingjisha County to the south; and Ashan County of Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture to the west. It is connected to Ketao County; it is adjacent to Shufu County in the northwest, and faces Kashgar City and Shufu County across the Kizil River in the north.

Shule County has a warm temperate continental arid climate with four distinct seasons, long sunshine, large temperature difference between day and night, little precipitation, strong evaporation, and dryness. The annual average temperature is 11.8°C. July is the hottest month with an average temperature of 25.8°C and the extreme highest temperature is 40.1°C. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -6.5°C and the extreme lowest temperature is -24.4°C. The average total number of sunshine hours is 2822 hours, and the average precipitation is 64 mm. The average frost-free period over the years is 215 days. Northwest winds often blow in spring and summer, with the maximum wind speed reaching 27 meters/second. There are an average of 13 sandstorm days over the years, mainly from March to July. Natural disasters include floods, hail, violent winds, strong winds, etc.
