Creative background:

"The Ordinary World" was created in 1975, and the cultural background of the mid-to-late 1980s All kinds of new literary trends are surging. Literary concepts such as modernism and stream of consciousness are all the rage. The changes and novelties in the forms and techniques of literary creation are dizzying. In contrast, traditional realist creation has been "left out".

Some critics even believed that the realistic writing techniques of Lu Yao's other novel "Life" were outdated, but Lu Yao still persisted in writing and completing this novel.

Lu Yao spent three years preparing and three years writing. In order to expand his horizons and master information, he read a lot, including nearly a hundred novels, newspapers and other related books from nearly ten years before and after. Living a life of "morning starts at noon", he also traveled to all walks of life to experience life.

The writing of the first draft began in a remote coal mine hospital. From his creative essay "Morning Starts at Noon" we can see his persistent confidence in the literary career and the price he paid: " Writing enters a complete state of frenzy. The body almost disappears; life seems to be a purely spiritual form, and daily life becomes robotic."

The first draft of the second part was written in a remote small county in the hinterland of the Loess Plateau. Because of the irregular life, Lu Yao was severely overdrafted and finally fell ill. Later, after taking more than a hundred decoctions, his body recovered slightly. He relied on a spiritual force to continue writing. The first draft of the third part was changed to Yulin Hotel. On May 25, 1988, Lu Yao finally completed all creation of "The Ordinary World".
