What are the experiences of Rieger Begonia cultivation?

Rieger Begonia belongs to Begonia of Begonia family. Also known as rose begonia.

Rieger begonia has bright colors, diverse flower shapes, huge flowers, long flowering period and velvet feeling. New Year's Day and Spring Festival are open, and the colors are red, yellow, white, orange and green, which are very popular in the market.

(1) Understand the growth and flowering habits and work hard at the temperature. The optimum temperature for the growth of Rieger Begonia is 15 ~ 24℃, and the optimum night temperature is 19 ~ 20℃, which is lower than 10℃. It grows slowly above 28℃ and freezes easily below 5℃. When the daily temperature exceeds 32℃, the growth is blocked, and when the night temperature exceeds 24℃, the plants grow white. Therefore, controlling temperature is the key to culture. In winter, it is easy to control the temperature in places with heating in the north, and most families in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have no heating. Therefore, flowers should be placed in the sunny place on the balcony and covered with transparent plastic bags. If the cold current comes, it is advisable to use electric lights or hot water bottles to keep warm. It is advisable to buy flowering plants on New Year's Day and Spring Festival. The indoor temperature should be kept at 10 ~ 20℃, and the flowering period can be kept for 2 ~ 3 months.

(2) The quality of the roots of Rieger Begonia should be controlled when watering. The roots are slender and fragile, and less water will affect the growth, while more water will inhibit the growth and infection. Generally, water every 5 ~ 10 days in winter and every 3 ~ 5 days in spring and autumn. When the substrate color becomes lighter, it should be watered in the morning, and the water temperature and air temperature should not exceed 5℃. After watering, it is best not to leave water droplets on the leaves, so as not to leave water on the leaves before dark. You'd better water the basin.

The air humidity is high in the early growth stage, 80% ~ 85%, and 55% ~ 65% in the late growth stage and after bud formation. If gray mold occurs, the humidity should be reduced to 70% ~ 80%. When the weather is dry in winter, especially in places with heating, water should be sprinkled to increase the air humidity.

(3) Suitable illumination The suitable illumination of Rieger Begonia is 18 ~ 25 kilolux. According to our experiment, with the increase of temperature, the light fastness decreases, and the resistance is 32 kilojoules at 18℃, 25 kilojoules at 25℃ and 18 kilojoules at 28℃. The suitable light intensity is 15 kilolux in seedling stage and 25 kilolux in growth stage. After the four leaves of seedlings are cored, they can be treated with 1 ~ 2 weeks of short sunshine to promote the formation of flower buds and the flowering period is neat. The growing period needs 14 ~ 16 hours of long sunshine. When curing in winter, it should be placed in a sunny place indoors. Shading should be 30% ~ 50% in summer and autumn, with natural lighting 1/2 ~ 1/3.

(4) As a cutting seedling or tissue culture seedling, Rieger Begonia should be fertilized in a timely and appropriate amount, and the substrate is peat, perlite and vermiculite. When the seedlings are newly planted in the pot, the dilute liquid fertilizer mainly containing nitrogen will reduce nitrogen, increase phosphorus and increase potassium with the growth of the plants, and the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium will range from 20: 10: 10 to 10: 30: 20. (Huaduoduo No.2), once a week 1 ~ 3 times, and the root application rate is 0.5%. You can also spray 0. 1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate once a week. Because of the velvet quality of Rieger begonia, the fog point should be fine when spraying fertilizer, and the pressure of sprayer should be high, so that water droplets can not be formed, which will make the leaves mottled.

(5) Timely control of diseases The main diseases of Rieger Begonia are powdery mildew, gray mold, stem rot and root rot, which are mainly controlled by controlling moderate indoor watering. When the humidity is above 82% and the temperature is above 20℃, powdery mildew is easy to occur. Before the onset, it can be prevented and treated with 15% fenxiuling 1000 times solution or 70% thiophanate-methyl 1000 times solution. 800 times solution of 50% mancozeb or 25% carbendazim plus 70% thiophanate methyl 1000 times solution can control tomato gray mold. 10 ~ 15 once a day, three times in a row.

(6) The selected variety Rieger Begonia should be purchased before New Year's Day and Spring Festival. The plant height should be 15 ~ 26 cm, the crown width should be 18 ~ 30 cm, the number of flowers should be 10 ~ 20, the flower diameter should be 3 ~ 5 cm, the appearance should be fresh and tender, the size and number of flowers should be normal, the color should be pure, the flower shape should be complete, and the leaves should be arranged neatly. The whole plant is wrapped in plastic paper to prevent the flowers and leaves from being damaged by wind and cold during transportation. The common varieties are Billing, Baike, Braddon, Veronica, Bi Sibbel, Kanafu, Berenice, Clara, Amber and Dark Pagoda.
