What festival is August 1st?

The first day of August is a traditional folk festival in Chashan.

July and half and early August are typhoon seasons every year. Natural conditions were harsh in the past. In case of heavy rain and strong wind, mountain torrents and waterfalls flooded in the upper reaches of Wolong Creek in Luoda, and the flood carried sand and stones down the river, endangering the people in Chashan.

Folk song: "Chashan Dragon Crab Pond, Zhou Mu _ people rushed over, and an old man in his house turned over." In feudal society, people had to pray to God and Buddha to control water. Therefore, on the first day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar, villagers sang operas in the Xujia Courtyard at Dongqiaotou and erected a monument under the big banyan tree at Dongqiaotou. The villagers brought many boxes.

Like a sedan chair, the watch case is exquisite in structure and unique in shape. Cases include: Princess Pingshui, Princess Long, Emperor Guan Sheng, Princess Shao, General Du Hu, Princess Guan Yin and Bodhisattva. They worship many gods and buddhas to treat floods and avoid disasters.

The play lasted for two days, with a warm atmosphere and spectacular scenes. After the social drama, people carried the sedan chair with the statue to a large family. On the first and fifteenth days of the ancient calendar, they will burn incense and offer worship gifts, and then be carried to Dongqiaotou for a party on the first day of August next year, and so on, year after year. After liberation, superstition was broken and the principle of scientific water control was cited, so many reservoirs were built and trees were planted. The people of Chashan defeated the Dragon God with their own wisdom and strength, thus achieving the purpose of fighting floods and controlling water. The traditional ancient folk customs were replaced by the New Cultural Festival, and the first day of August became the Chashan Cultural Festival.
