What should I pay attention to when raising snakes?

Pay attention to temperature, humidity and ventilation.

For wild snakes, winter is the season when food is scarce. In order to reduce their energy consumption as much as possible and spend this season safely, they choose hibernation. But hibernation is not completely safe. Some snakes may die in hibernation. However, my own pet snake needs to pay attention to many related issues in winter.

Generally speaking, snakes gradually hibernate from 10, and the hibernation time is about 150 days to 160 days. So how can we ensure that snakes can survive in this long and short time? First of all, the company mainly focuses on optimizing their living environment. When arranging the snake's living place, we should consider the problems of light and temperature. We can put the basin in a sunny place, of course, it is better to have curtains, which is convenient for us to adjust ourselves. In order to avoid the low temperature, snakes instinctively look for the best habitat. Generally, there are few snakes living alone, and there are few male and female caves. Seven or eight or dozens of groups are the most stinging. Living in groups can increase the temperature of caves by 3℃ ~ 5℃. In order to facilitate the safe wintering of snakes, we should consider making the place bigger and letting snakes hibernate in groups. If you raise it alone, you can reduce some space appropriately.

Another thing to pay attention to is to control the temperature and humidity. The design and construction of a good wintering snake site must meet three conditions, namely, the temperature is stable at 10℃ ~ 12℃ and the relative humidity is controlled at 70% ~ 90%. According to the above requirements, it is best to build the overwintering snake room underground, surrounded by bricks, with two walkways inside and outside, and the door connecting the snake room with the outside is "S". Snakes can overwinter in wooden boxes or tanks with built-in wintering rooms, or they can spread a layer of fine sand (not straw) on the ground, and hibernating snakes can overwinter directly on the sand.

Provide an adequate diet

Provide adequate diet: appropriately increase the amount of bait, so that snakes have enough food and enough physical strength to resist the cold. Small mammals such as fresh fish, frogs, lizards, birds and mice are all suitable as bait. If it is a poisonous snake, it is necessary to temporarily stop collecting poison. Venom is an important digestive juice of snakes. It circulates continuously in the body and promotes metabolism. Never catch a snake when it is hibernating and suck its venom hard. Otherwise, the snake body is damaged, which will affect the functional recovery and cause death.

Pay attention to temperature control, strictly control the room temperature of the overwintering snake house between10℃ and12℃, raise the temperature with steam pipe or electric heating wire at low temperature, open the top ventilation pipe at high temperature, introduce fresh cold air through the "S" door, and discharge harmful carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide gas at the same time. The room temperature should be kept constant, otherwise snakes will die in large numbers because they can't adapt to the drastic changes in temperature. The cover plate of the snake pit can be covered with 20 cm thick straw, and the inspection door of the snake pit should be closed to prevent cold air from blowing in. When the outside temperature drops to zero degrees Celsius, cold protection measures should be taken, that is, each snake house should be padded with hay, paper scraps, old sacks or broken cotton wool to keep warm. You can also add an appropriate amount of 25-watt blue light bulb to raise the temperature.

Food, humidity, temperature and ventilation are several key elements for snakes to survive the winter safely, which can be said to be indispensable. Although we may not be able to do everything, we should try our best to control every link.
