What is "eat, drink and be merry" and "live in the present"?
It used to be said that life is short, eat, drink and be merry. Come on! Happy! Artificial! Buy it if you like! Eat if you want! Sleep when you are sleepy! Earn if you have no money! Do whatever you want. When you close your eyes, it's no big deal -This can be described as "eat, drink and be merry" and "live in the present".
However, this kind of thinking can easily lead to a misunderstanding and escape. For example, if you quit your job, travel in seclusion and seek peace of mind to become a monk, the situation may be more or less serious. You just put off what you don't want to do, make a joke, and then deal with it in a hurry when deadline arrives (as I often do). Although some people travel because they really love this way of life, and some people do have Buddhist reasons to become monks, in order to escape the pressure from all sides, more people suddenly abandon everything and seek short-term relief-not long after, travelers can't stand it all the way, and monks can't stand the rules ... Is this still called a life of eating, drinking and being merry at present?
I heard a unique explanation of "eat, drink and be merry" the other day, which was very interesting and enlightening. Life is short. Okay, what is it? What is happiness? What is "timely"?
-"Behavior is divided into mind and action. Mind is one's own mind, and action is a way of behavior. Therefore, behavior also means cultivating the mind and practice; Happiness is a result. What is the result of this happiness? Of course, it is not the temporary happiness produced by the bitter truth of love and hate. It is a state of great happiness in which body and mind are integrated and knowledge and action are integrated.
As for what is "timely"? Timely is now! Do it now. "
We live in the present and the present, that is, between the past and the future. However, the past has passed and the future has not yet arrived. What exactly is "now" or "present"?
There is a word "Yin Zhong" in Tibetan, which means "interval". According to the Buddhist point of view, everything we experience is yin. There is a very important element in Yin, which is "uncertainty". Born in the world, but not dead, all of us are now in the shadow of "survival", completely in an uncertain state, not knowing what will happen next. Many "I think" and "I know" Otawa weather forecasts are the same. The truly accurate weather forecast is updated all the time.
We are always asking, "What's the point?" What's the point of reading? What is the meaning of survival? What's the point of learning Buddhism? When the definition of meaning changes, everything changes, your attitude towards the world changes, and so on. This is a very high-level departure. When we watch a movie, even if the plot is very moving, we know in our hearts that this is just a movie and we won't get lost in it. We have a correct view of this matter and understand its futility. This is the real departure. Life is a big movie.
Leaving doesn't mean not going to see it, because you know it's a movie. We can also watch, out of understanding, and will not fall into it. Knowing the so-called survival yin doesn't make much sense, it doesn't mean you have to be a pessimist. If you have a chance to become a rich man, why not? You should do it and go all out, but always know your true identity and always remember the reality. At this time, the meaning of your doing this has changed. Then the uncertainty in all kinds of life becomes interesting. Because you can control your life.
Remarks: The idea of eating, drinking and having fun comes from chatting with friends, and the rest comes from the book I recently read, The World is a Theater by Zongsa Jiangyang Qinzhe Rinpoche, which is not personal consciousness. I am too young to think so deeply. This article can only be regarded as my reading notes and personal thoughts. * * * Whatever you want.
