How strong is the typhoon? What is the wind speed per second?
Typhoon is a classification of tropical cyclones in Asia-Pacific countries or regions north of the equator and west of international date line.
In meteorology, according to the definition of the World Meteorological Organization, the sustained wind speed of tropical cyclone center reaches 12 (that is, more than 64 knots, more than 32.7 meters per second, or more than 1 18 kilometers per hour), which is called hurricane or other local synonyms.
The synonym used in the Pacific Northwest is typhoon. Both the World Meteorological Organization and the Japan Meteorological Agency regard this as the highest level of tropical cyclone, but some meteorological departments will set a higher level according to their needs, such as the strong typhoon and super typhoon at the China Central Meteorological Observatory and the Hong Kong Observatory, the strong typhoon in central weather bureau, Taiwan Province Province, and the super typhoon at the United States Typhoon Warning Center.
Typhoon transit is often accompanied by strong winds and strong convective weather such as heavy rain or torrential rain. The wind rotates counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere (clockwise in the southern hemisphere). On the weather map, the isobar and isotherm of typhoon are approximately a set of concentric circles. The typhoon center is a low pressure center, which is dominated by the vertical movement of airflow. It was calm and sunny. Near the eye of the typhoon, there is a vortex wind and rain area with heavy wind and rain.
The typhoon with the strongest intensity and the lowest pressure near the center in history is the super typhoon Taibei (English: Typhoon Tip, translated by Taiwan Province Province: Dipu), 1979 caused extensive floods in Japan.
Typhoon is caused by high ground temperature and rising airflow. Because of the high ratio of sea surface wind and water vapor, the ground air is supplemented along the ground, while the low sea surface temperature absorbs the rising air and water vapor to supplement the space. Due to the large sea surface and small temperature difference, there is a lot of water vapor accumulated over the sea surface, and the rainfall range is wide. When the water vapor condenses, the volume shrinks, and the surrounding water vapor supplements to form a strong wind.
Extended data
In the past, China used to call the tropical cyclone formed on the tropical ocean surface above 26℃ a typhoon. According to its intensity, it is divided into six grades: tropical depression, tropical storm, strong tropical storm, typhoon, strong typhoon and super typhoon. Since 1989, China has adopted the international tropical cyclone name and classification standard. ?
According to international practice, the maximum wind force near its center is divided into:
Tropical depression with maximum wind speed of 6-7, (10.8-17.1m/s).
Tropical storm with maximum wind speed of 8-9, (17.2-24.4m/s).
Strong tropical storm, maximum wind speed 10 ~ 1 1, (24.5 ~ 32.6m/s).
Typhoon (Ty-phoon), maximum wind speed 12 ~ 13, (32.7 ~ 4 1.4m/s).
Strong typhoon, maximum wind speed14 ~15 (41.5 ~ 50.9 m/s).
Super typhoon with maximum wind speed ≥ 16 (≥5 1.0m/s).
