Customs and immigration procedures:
Generally speaking, the requirements for passengers arriving in Yangon by air are not too strict. Passengers should fill in the immigration form and customs declaration form on the plane and hand them over to the relevant personnel when they arrive at the airport. Myanmar currency cannot be brought into or out of the country. You can take a carton of cigarettes and a bottle of wine duty-free. Antiques, Buddha statues and jewels are strictly forbidden to be taken out of the country without official invoices. Baggage should be X-rayed or opened before leaving the country.
Currency and exchange rate:
The currency of Myanmar is called kyat. The official exchange rate is 1 USD, which is about 6 kyats, while the unofficial exchange rate is as high as 1200 or more, so it can be easily converted into kyats. However, we suggest that you bring some small denominations of US dollars in cash. Many hotels and restaurants need dollars or foreign exchange certificates, and general stores also accept foreign exchange certificates. International credit cards and traveler's checks are not widely used in Myanmar. Only the best hotels accept American Express and Visa. MasterCard is not accepted in Myanmar. In order to attract more tourists from China, the Myanmar government has now agreed to allow China tourists to bring in no more than 6,000 RMB from July 6, 2002.
Hotel:
There are good hotels in major cities and tourist areas in Myanmar, ranging from three-star to five-star, and most of them are built by foreign investors. What is more distinctive is that hotels with no tall buildings by the sea are almost all wooden villas.
Time difference:
One and a half hours later than Beijing time and six and a half hours later than GMT.
Passport and visa:
Visitors to Myanmar should hold legal passports and apply for a 28-day tourist visa from Myanmar embassies and consulates abroad. Our company can help with visas for Beijing and Kunming.
Tip:
In addition to the service tax on hotel and restaurant bills, tipping is also common. Porters usually have to pay 300-500 kyats to move a piece of luggage, and the airport is slightly higher.
Food:
Rice and noodles are the main food in Myanmar, usually accompanied by several side dishes: pork or fish curry, vegetables, salads, soups and seasonings. Curry is not as spicy as Thailand. Chinese food, Thai food and Indian restaurants can be found in major cities. Visitors are advised not to eat food from street stalls or market stalls, although they look attractive.
Don't drink tap water, bottled pure water can be bought everywhere.
Hygienic requirements:
Traveling to Myanmar does not require vaccination or malaria prevention. However, tourists should consult their doctors or travel immunization offices about whether they need to be vaccinated against typhoid, hepatitis, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis.
