An Overview of Chapters 26 and 27 of Jane Eyre

Chapter 26 Summary: The next morning, Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester went to church together. Jane doesn't know whether the weather is good or bad, but she only thinks about Mr. Rochester. They walked into the church and the wedding was held as scheduled. When the priest was talking to them, an uninvited guest broke in and stopped the wedding. He said that Rochester married Bertha, Mei Sen's sister, five years ago. Mei Sen is his wife. Rochester admitted this fact and led people to Thornfield House to visit the crazy woman who was locked up on the third floor. Jane Eyre was among them at that time, and she didn't know what to do after she knew about it. It suddenly occurred to me that my uncle left me a legacy, so I decided to leave Thornfield House and Mr. Rochester.

Chapter 27 Summary: On the afternoon of the wedding day, Jane Eyre left the room. She found Rochester sitting in a chair at the door waiting for her. After talking with them, Rochester confessed to Jane Eyre that the reason for marrying a crazy woman was that her father distributed property unevenly, and expressed his love for Jane Eyre. But Jane has decided to go. Out of pride, she didn't want to be Rochester's nominal mistress. The next day, she simply packed her bags and left Thornfield.
