Definition of meteorological drought

Meteorological drought refers to the continuous abnormal dry weather leading to water shortage, resulting in serious hydrological imbalance. The most obvious performance is that the rainfall continues to be lower than a certain normal value.

Meteorological drought, also known as atmospheric drought, refers to the phenomenon that water resources are in short supply and water expenditure is greater than water income in a certain period of time due to the imbalance of evaporation and precipitation according to the people of China and the national meteorological drought grade standard. Meteorological drought is usually mainly based on insufficient precipitation.

The most intuitive manifestation of meteorological drought is the reduction of precipitation. The decrease of precipitation is not only the fundamental cause of meteorological drought, but also an important natural factor that causes other types of drought.
