The altitude of Sunwu County is between 110 and 755 meters. It is a low mountain and hilly area. Medicinal plants produced locally include Schisandra chinensis, Panax notoginseng, Astragalus membranaceus, Bupleurum, lily, peony, Platycodon, Acanthopanax, Codonopsis pilosula, dandelion, etc.

Sunwu County is also an important production and distribution base for agricultural and sideline products in Heihe City. Local specialties with high economic value include fungus, mushrooms, hericium, hazelnuts, blueberries, bracken, and wisteria.
