When it comes to food, Qingdao people have a special liking for clams. With the holding of the Clam Festival, Red Island clams are becoming more and more famous. Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s clam season again. The reporter learned from Hongdao Street that the annual Hongdao Clam Festival will be held at the end of this month.

Red Island clams have a complete growth period of one year from release to harvest. Focusing on this unique local clam, Hongdao Street actively promotes the scale and quality of clam farming, and simultaneously improves the quality and yield of clams through rotational breeding, beach resting and other methods. According to fishermen, compared with previous years, this year's clams are smaller, so the price is cheaper.

Currently, about 100,000 kilograms of clams are landed on Hongdao every day. The clam is not at its fattest yet. It is estimated that clams will be fatter around May Day and will be on the market in large quantities.

According to reports, the current wholesale price of Hongdao clams is 3.2 to 3.5 yuan per catty, which is about one yuan cheaper than in previous years. As the temperature gradually rises, red island clams also usher in a rapid "fattening period." It is expected that around May Day, the meat of the clams will be more plump, and citizens can enjoy the delicious taste of the Hongdao clams.

The local clam festival held for fifteen consecutive years has also helped expand the popularity of Hongdao clams. Every May Day, clams enter the peak harvest season, which also means the opening time of the Clam Festival. This year's festival is expected to take place at the end of this month and will attract tens of thousands of visitors every day to local beaches to experience the joy of digging clams by hand.

The main venue of the Hongdao Clam Festival is Hongdao Leisure Fishing Village, located in Xidayang Community, Hongdao Street, surrounded by the sea on three sides, with beautiful scenery and pleasant environment. It is the first "National Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site" in Chengyang District. It is the main venue of the Clam Festival with the theme of catching clams from the sea, fishing style, fitness and entertainment, and food experience. During the festival, various leisure activities such as clam digging and artistic performances will be held continuously to allow citizens to experience the comfort of returning to nature.
