More attention should be paid to keeping laying ducks in cages in cold weather. What are the main points of laying ducks in captivity in cold season?
First, adjust the duck.
It is necessary to adjust the duck flock, eliminate the old, weak, sick, disabled ducks, low-yield ducks and discontinued ducks in time, and leave laying ducks with good production performance, strong physique and normal laying. Specific methods: take a look: the main wing feathers fall off or the body feathers fall off significantly, the beak base turns yellow and weak, or the feathers are good but the individual is obese. Touch: the cloaca is small and dry, the abdomen is small and hard, the pubic space is small, and the birth canal has no eggs. A duck with the above characteristics is a leisure duck or a low-yield duck.
Second, keep warm from the cold.
The suitable laying temperature of duck eggs is 13-20℃. Too low or too high temperature will lead to a decline in duck egg production. Therefore, keeping the environmental temperature relatively stable is the key to the high and stable yield of laying ducks in winter. The main measures to prevent cold and keep warm are: (1) Close doors and windows and hang grass curtains to prevent thieves. (2) Laying wheat straw or straw with a thickness of about 30cm in the shed. (3) Appropriately increase the feeding density, 8-9 ducks per square meter, and use the body temperature of ducks to raise the house temperature. (4) When a cold comes, keep warm at night. (5) ventilation. If excessive emphasis is placed on heat preservation, it will lead to poor ventilation in the house and an increase in ammonia concentration, which will easily induce various diseases. Therefore, open the doors and windows when releasing the ducks, strengthen ventilation, and close the doors and windows in time when the ducks return to the house.
Third, thicken the padding.
Laying 10 ~ 20cm thick straw or 10cm thick fine shavings in the spawning area around the henhouse. When you collect eggs in the morning, pull out the straw, and after the feces are removed, spread a clean layer of straw in the house. In this way, before the ducks go home every night, some fresh straw or fine shavings are sprinkled in the egg-laying area, which has better heat preservation effect and saves manpower. Avoid damp padding, or laying ducks will catch cold easily.
Fourth, change your diet.
Laying ducks need more calories to keep out the cold. The proportion of energy feed such as corn and wheat should be appropriately increased in the feed formula, and 1%-2% of animal (plant) oil should be added, so that the metabolism in the feed can reach 12- 12.5 mj/kg to meet the energy needs of laying ducks. Protein's ratio is still 15%. Feed more green feed and supplement cod liver oil regularly (once every 8- 10) to improve the feed intake of ducks (about 10%). Because of the long nights in winter, it is necessary to supplement feeding at night to maintain high and stable yield.
