What is the strongest typhoon in history?

This year, Typhoon 12, "Meihua", came to the fore and landed twice in the coastal areas of Zhejiang and Shanghai overnight.

The moving path of Typhoon Meihua. Produced by Central Meteorological Observatory on September 5 18.

It has not only become the strongest typhoon landing in China this year, but also the strongest typhoon landing in Zhoushan and Shanghai, Zhejiang since 1949.

People in Baoyou District are no strangers to its past life, that is, the "plum blossom II" of 20 1 1. At that time, Plum Blossom II was also directed at East China. Although he broke his promise three times and didn't land in China, it still brought obvious wind and rain influence to the Yangtze River Delta.

In contrast, this year's "Plum Blossom" Ⅳ is a frank attack on the Yangtze River Delta. Amazingly, its circulation is still huge after it scored twice, and it will be boarded in Sandeng, Shandong and even Sideng, Liaoning. What kind of typhoon is Mei ⅳ?

Bold and resolute

On the morning of September 8, typhoon 12 was generated this year. At the beginning of its birth, it was regarded as a strong man, but the path was still very uncertain.

"Plum Blossom" is steadily and steadily at sea, becoming stronger step by step. In the early morning of September 1 1, it intensified into a strong typhoon, and the typhoon eye was clearly visible. On that day, its path was obviously westward. As it approached, it was more and more likely to land in East China.

However, on September 12, "Meihua" moved slowly, and the deep cold water turned up and its intensity weakened. At the same time, Typhoon Miaobai (13) suddenly came into being. Although it is located deep in the Pacific Northwest, it has no influence on China, but its emergence undoubtedly increases the complexity of the sea plot.

In the early morning of September 13, "Meihua" moved into the warmer waters in the southern part of the East China Sea, and re-strengthened into a strong typhoon at 5 am. At this time, its goal is more clear. It speeds up and goes straight to the "postal area". In this case, "plum blossom" is threatening. Although it is not big, it has "Kazlan big eyes", good structural symmetry and dense cloud system.

Before the typhoon came, the wind and rain came first. Affected by the typhoon itself, the inverted trough on the north side of the typhoon and the cold air, obvious rainfall began to appear in September 12.

According to the statistics of the Central Meteorological Observatory, since September 12, the cumulative rainfall in the central and northern Zhejiang, Shanghai, southeastern Jiangsu and central and northern Taiwan Province Province has been 50 ~ 150 mm, 250 ~ 450 mm in the northern part of Ningbo, Shaoxing, Zhoushan and Taiwan Province, and 542 ~ 592 mm in Shangyu and Shengzhou, Zhejiang. The gusts in eastern Zhejiang, northern Fujian, Shanghai, southeastern Jiangsu and Shandong Peninsula are 7-8, 9-11along the coast of Zhejiang, and some islands and reefs12-15.

Wherever I go, it's always a storm. At about 20: 30 on September 14, Meihua landed in the coastal area of Putuo, Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, with an unobstructed view. When landing, the maximum wind force near the center was 14, which was a strong typhoon. "Meihua" became the first typhoon to land in East China this year, and its intensity far exceeded the first three typhoons that landed in China this year.

Subsequently, it stepped up its pace, sneaked into Shanghai in the middle of the night, and landed again on the coast of Fengxian at about 0: 30 am on September 15, setting a new record again-becoming the strongest typhoon that landed in Shanghai since 1949.

It took two and a half hours to attack more than 80 kilometers, and the "Meihua" center crossed the whole Shanghai from southeast to northwest, and left gracefully on the morning of September 15.

"Meihua" has weakened into a strong tropical storm at this time, but its circulation form is still intact, and the pressure is still on Jiangsu, Shandong, Liaoning and Jilin.

Everyone will die.

Generally speaking, typhoons will be hit hard after landing, but why is "Meihua" so unique that it can continue to go inland after landing?

"This is mainly due to favorable weather and geographical location." Hu Xiao, chief meteorologist of China Weather Network, analyzed that Meihua was a strong typhoon when it first landed. At the same time, it goes north along the coastline of East China, and half of the main structure is still at sea, so it constantly transports water vapor from the sea to the land while walking, and it is still full of water vapor after landing. Not only that, it also has a younger brother to cheer. 14 Typhoon "Nanmadu" is located in the east of "Meihua" and transports water vapor for it with the help of "southeast wind".

It seems that behind a strong typhoon, there are many factors to help.

For people in the postal area, the last severe plum blossom can be traced back to 20 1 1 year. Due to the repeated use of typhoon names, this year's typhoon "Meihua" is strictly called "Meihua IV", and "Meihua" in 20 1 1 year is called "Meihua II".

The Central Meteorological Observatory said that Mei Er at that time also reached the intensity of a super typhoon, and it also pointed directly at East China, and people nicknamed it Mei Chaofeng. At that time, the sea was also very lively, with three dances, so the path prediction of "Meihua" made the forecaster lose a lot of hair.

At first, it was predicted that Mei Er would land in Zhejiang, Shandong and Liaoning, but it broke the contract three times, chose to go north in the offshore of China, and finally landed in North Korea, which is also commonly known as "plum blossom three lanes".

This year's "Plum Blossom" is aimed at East China, but after the "Plum Blossom Twice", it is not enough, and it will take three or even four times.

The Central Meteorological Observatory mentioned that it always felt that "Mei Si" still had the memory of "Mei Er", which looked like it, the path was like it, and the landing place was compared with the last time.

Followed by "Meihua", this year's No.3 typhoon "Miaobai" was generated on September 12. Compared with "Plum Blossom" and "Wonderful White" at 20 1 1, their station is simply a replica of that year. Especially "Miaobai", the birthplace of 20 1 1 and 2022 is super close.

As for "Mei I" and "Mei III", there is no trace left in the history of typhoons. Mei I was born in the dead of winter in 2004 and didn't do much. "Mei San" was the first typhoon in 20 17, which was untimely and ended hastily.

Compared with Plum Blossom 123, the strength of Plum Blossom IV is really outstanding.
